Masonic Arms Gatehouse, hotel in Castle Douglas

Boasting a garden, a restaurant and a bar, Masonic Arms Gatehouse is situated in Gatehouse of Fleet and is 49 km from Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club.

We checked in very easily and were shown a room which was delightful, beautifully decorated and having coffee and kettle and all soaps etc in the very smart bathroom. It was however one of the coldest nights of the year and sadly the radiator decided to fail. NO PROBLEM! The wonderful host immediately transferred us to another lovely room and we warmed up and went to the restaurant for a light evening meal. Delicious. Muchas gracias.

Lindean Guest House, hotel in Castle Douglas

Offering quiet street views, Lindean Guest House is an accommodation set in Dumfries, 1.6 km from Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club and 14 km from Caerlaverock Castle.

The stay is in all aspects excellent. High quality of service, accomodation and lovely people. A very high end feel while simultaneously feeling very much at home. Many places are a 9. This experience for us is what 10 is about. Also a perfect base to explore the greater Dumfries area.

Woodland House Hotel, hotel in Castle Douglas

Woodland House hotel is a grade B listed Georgian mansion on the edge of the market town of Dumfries. Set amongst a secluded rural landscape the family-run hotel offers free private on-site parking.

Stayed here for one night with my husband. There’s a nice looking entrance as you head up the driveway and pull into a large car park. Inside we found the hotel to be well maintained and tastefully decorated. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. We were given a quiet, spacious room with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Food was pleasantly traditional - tasty evening meal that had a home cooked vibe, breakfast was just as good with a nice selection of options on offer. The overall atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming, we had a very comfortable stay and would happily return.

Great location, extremely comfortable bed in spacious room. Most delicious roast beef dinner at the restaurant - best I’ve ever had!! (Good prices for dinner & drinks too). Lovely view from restaurant. Great breakfast & service. Location was convenient to highway but so quiet (must be double/triple glazed windows?) and close to Dumfries & Caerlaverlock Castle. Would definitely stay again & highly recommend.

A great location by the river. A bonus is being able to sit in the wonderful garden by the river or in a large gazebo. There is also a sitting room for use by guests. The breakfasts are wonderful, cooked to order and with mixed fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Excellent breakfast which even included Haggis if you wanted it, served in a lovely dinning area with a view over the Loch. Our room also had a view toward the Loch. We also liked the conservatory which along with an internal lounge area were for the use of the guests, south facing too so nice and toasty. Great location on the Galloway Tourist Route near Loch Ken which is just stunning.

Best location, main street but quiet. Close to buses & local facilities. Free car park onsite A couple of cafes a minutes walk away for a good breakfast. Room up to standard, TV etc. Good heating Cheap & cheerful - we only used it to sleep. Met the maintenance man - great chap. Really helpful. Only part time though, it appears.
