None of the reviews really prepared us for the charm of Les hirondelles. It was excellent in all the ways you would expect but it had a unique charm and character from the way in which Salvador decorated it with a fascinating and eclectic collection of items from the past. You have to see it.

The little house is situated on the road to Puy-de-Dôme in the woods just outside Royat. It has a garden with parking spot and is well separated from the road, so it is a quiet place. At the back you can descend to a small river and when you cross it, walk through the woods to Royat or do other hikes. The house is very cosy and is packed with memorabilia of car racing. The small kitchen is complete (hob, microwave, oven, but very small table), there is an aircon heating system and a fireplace, a good shower, TV, DVD and bluetooth sound bar. We slept very well. For car (racing) enthousiasts, an added bonus is the library (books and DVD's) about racing. The owner lives next door and came to ask us if all was OK.
