This was my second visit to this hotel - my first was two years earlier when I had an excellent suite of rooms in the main 18th century building, where all the eight bedrooms are served by an original stone spiral staircase. My recent visit however was based in an adjoining separate building called "Gite - Cottage" with its own front door and two spacious bedrooms upstairs. Very well equipped, recently modernised, and looking onto the sheltered courtyard in front of the hotel. The situation of the hotel is remarkable, as it is not visible from the Place Saint Martin. On my first visit it took me some 10 minutes to find the entrance, which is through an archway with a locked gate, but once found I used the code which the hotel had provided. After that all was well. The more modern houses built directly onto the square provide privacy and tranquillity for the courtyard and hotel behind them.
The proprietor, a remarkable man called David, has excellent English, and is most helpful and friendly. He also has good taste, which is apparent throughout the design and style of the interior rooms and furnishings. The bedroom for my first visit was called "la Chambre Rouge", as its colour scheme was predominantly red. .
The situation of the hotel is admirably placed to afford easy access on foot to the main points of tourist interest in this beautiful city. In particular, and close to the hotel, there is the elegant Hotel de Ville, based in the vast former 18th century monastery buildings. This is right next door to the early Norman church of St Etienne, where there is the tomb of William the Conqueror, who of course was Duke of Normandy before he became King of England.
I would be very happy to return to Caen, and stay once more at this hotel.

We loved everything about Le Clos de l'Aiguillon - it felt like a true, authentic and romantic experience in a traditional French village.
The house is an easy drive over the famous Pegasus Bridge from the Ouistreham ferry port, parking is free and right next to it in a small car park. Breakfast served by Anne was delicious and set us up for a day of exploring. She could not do enough for us, and we want to thank her for her wonderful hospitality.
The room itself is a private annex off the main house, and is high-end, with little extras that made it feel like she understood her guests - lovely soft towels, cosy bed, everything sparklingly clean and little treats each day made us feel so welcome and looked after. The pool was beautiful and the sun loungers comfy and stylish.
We can recommend visiting the stunning village of Beuvron-en-Auge nearby and specifically Le Pavé d'Auge, the Michelin recommended restaurant in the centre. We also suggest getting pizza from the local shop/bar/pizzeria in the village centre and eating it in the lovely garden! The little Pâtisserie in the village is open until 8pm most days and has great desserts. We toured around some D-Day sights as well as the great museum Mémorial de Caen, and of course Honfleur, Deuville and Trouville and Dives-Sur Mer which had a lovely Saturday market. Anne's place was the perfect base for all our adventures. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to stay again.

The apartment is located in a quiet residential area. It is very clean and modern, with all new furnishings. The kitchen is well-equipped and up-to-date.
Great location on the edge of town if you are passing thru....not near the town or beaches if you want that sort of thing then not this hotel...lots of eating houses right on your doorstep .. buffalo grill right next door!
Our room was very clean and comfortable .The people at Reception were very nice and helpful. There is public transportation nearby to bring you into the city centre. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby also.
A good stopping off hotel en route to Ouistreham to catch a ferry. The hotel was clean and quiet and had a restaurant and free parking. Large comfortable bed and good bathroom. We have used this hotel previously and will continue to do so.
