Crecy-la-Chapelle's location on the river Morin fostered trade, craft, and the textile industry during the Middle Ages. In the 19th-century, the town inspired many Barbizon School painters who nicknamed it " Venice in Brie." You can take a pleasant walk from the town square to the river, past the remaining mills and church. Look for the small signs that help explain the little known history of the interesting old river town.
