The Deuli House itself is a spectacular example of Swahili-Arabic architecture, with a riyad-style central fountain in a light well extending 3 stories high. Beautifully handcrafted wood furniture decorate the living area. An antique dhow sail billows from the top of the light well to the ground floor exaggerating the building's height. The garden is large, and green with HUGE giant oyster shells where the turtles shelter from the sun. In addition to the breathtaking architecture, Chef Chengo and his assistant Michael, act like your personal chef and waiter. Peilo (sp?) the household help, created a beautiful bed of flowers as a welcome and keeps the accommodations spotless. The meals were amazing, the rooms are spacious, and the service, impeccable. The mosque is nearby, so we were shocked at 5am for prayers. It is located close to Peponi Hotel and magnificent soft sandy beaches which unfortunately we didn't have enough time to walk around. Also missed sailing at sunset in a dhow boat because of inclement weather...bummed...need to return.

For a creative professional, being at every corner of Swahili Dreams Apartments was a pure joy, every detail is so well curated. The private apartment was really spacious and had so much air while the common space tempts you to lounge there all day. Bravo to the team and the architect! It is a masterpiece we will remember for long.

Despite the power being out in all of Lamu, we made it work and the place was clean and comfortable. Jivanjee was a great host and greated us at the beginning and end of our stay as well as connected us to local guides.
