The location was great and easy walking distance to the Onomichi JR station and was easy to find. There was everything you needed in the apartment.

The beds were big and the mattress was very comfortable. Everything was super clean and modern. The staff is nice and they give a free drink if you follow the hostel on Instagram. The location is also perfect, next to the station and castle. I really enjoyed my stay here. It’s perfect for one night.

It was an unlikely retreat for me, an ohenro-san, during the Shikoku 88 pilgrimage. I loved the casual style of the property and the host. An impromptu barbecue birthday celebration was fun and had all of us eating, laughing, and singing. Hats off to our chef!

A wonderful stay. Unique alternative to staying in a hotel. After meeting the host at the check-in (Iroha Restaurant, across the main street), it was a brief walk over to the house. Entering the code on the keypad was very easy (better than a key). The house is adjacent to a cat sanctuary where we were pleasantly greeted by three sleepy cats, one in the middle of the stone path outside the house. Traditional sliding shoji screen doors between some rooms. Beds were very comfortable. Wonderful panoramic view of the hills on the other side of the harbor. Dual sheer and privacy curtains for windows in bedroom. Three separate AC units with remotes and a portable fan in main living areas. Nice kitchenette with refrigerator/freezer/microwave. One neat fact is the desk and chair in the study room that was used by Hayao Miyazaki when he stayed in Tomo while producing "Ponyo".
We did not eat any meals at Iroha restaurant and most places close by 5pm, but there are a few gems that are open until 10pm.
During our stay in early July, we did not experience any significant bug issues that others have mentioned. Keeping the entrance and foyer sliding doors closed helps keep bugs and flying insects out.
For travelers who appreciate a space of their own at the end of the day, an apartment or flat is the perfect home away from home. Furnished rooms and kitchen facilities give groups and families the flexibility to enjoy downtime separately or plan the next day’s activities over a shared meal. Often available for short and long-term.
urashima INN - GANGI is a lovely hotel in the gorgeous town of Onomichi.
I stayed at the hotel in order to rent a bike and cycle the Shimanami Kaido.
It is ideally based for the town which is 5 minute or so walk away for the ferries to Mukaishima Island and for the bike rental vendors too.
The room sizes are a little small and probably a bit of a tight squeeze for two people but, as I was staying on my own it was more than adequate for me.
The staff were also very helpful and welcoming.
I will certainly return again next year.
Great guesthouse for a short stay in Onomichi. The house itself is old with beautiful views any time during the day and you can see the stunning sunrise/sunset if the weather is good enough. The food especially the cheese cake is good too. It is very close to the temple thus a perfect place for people who enjoys Buddhism/Zen culture to get there and pray. The location is also close to the viewing platform on the mountain, the Onomichi museum, and the Cat Alley. The restroom and the showers are clean and convenient.
SOIL Setoda is a beautiful and efficient little hotel that is connected to an associated cafe and bike rental. The building is modern and incredibly comfortable too! The staff are helpful and sociable, the cafe has excellent atmosphere and coffee, and the port is less than two minutes away.
The hotel is within a few steps of our bike rental place - so easy for our Shiminami trip. The look was loft like- concrete counters, charcoal coloured walls, natural wood. I loved the aesthetic!
It was quiet and comfortable.
Modern clean studio apartment. I loved of fresh wood. The terrace for breakfast was great.fresh jam and bread were provided. You can park your bikes inside.
