The Beaumonts, hotel in Bishop Auckland

Situated in Darlington, 48 km from Beamish Museum and 49 km from Lightwater Valley Theme Park, The Beaumonts features accommodation with free WiFi in a historic building.

Spacious, surprisingly near central shops (6 mins walk using underpass), comfortable sofa, nice table and chairs, great TV, dishwasher and washing machine, powerful shower, comfortable bed, mostly very clean (just small stain on side of bed - would be nicer if it was gone!). Easy to get through the door with the code. There's 2 hours parking directly behind, which is good for unpacking. I asked an official where nearest longterm parking was, and he directed me to the longstay 5 mins walk down Chesnut Street, which has cameras and is regularly checked overnight. But as a lone traveller, felt safe and spacious and convenient for visiting the town centre. The friendly uniformed traffic officer in an official van even gave me a lift to my car when I parked too far away and suggested local places to visit!

Ideal for our short stay but would have been excellent for a week or longer because all the facilities you needed were there with all instructions. Excellently appointed. Coffee/tea milk and sugar ensured you could have a drink before unpacking or shopping for your own goods.

The location was ideal as it was in easy walking distance of the town centre but the neighbourhood is not suitable for holiday accommodation, being very run down. We saw people entering and leaving a property in the next block of flats via the kitchen window - presumably squatters. An effort has been made with the apartment, the kitchen was well equipped and we were grateful for the bread and milk provided as we arrived very late.
