Ideal for travellers who want their own space and don’t need frills. Aparthotels/serviced apartments have some hotel facilities like a reception desk but are self-catered with a place to cook (e.g. a kitchenette). This suite-style accommodation usually has more than 10 units per property.
We're not fishing types but this was a lovely place to stay. Lodge number 8 was very peaceful and comfortable with a decent kitchen for self catering. It's good value for money, there's a laundry and the cafe is excellent. Pleasant sitting out area. It's also sufficiently close to the National Park which was ideal for the day walks we wanted to do.
We were moved from a 1x bed chalet to a 3x bed villa after a noisy neighbours night! Larise was most helpful and offered us the perfect and tranquil alternative for our remaining 3 nights. The #19 villa was comfortable, well stocked for self catering and ideally located with a view of the river.
On our final night we dinned in their restaurant which was seriously good!
Casual boarding house with exclusive lakeside access. Tony's is highly familial and chill—you will definitely chat with Tony and the other guests. Comfortable enough beds. Amazing lakeside walking and swimming.
Well equipped kitchen to cook your own dinner. I would recommend writing ahead and asking if Tony can get you freshly caught trout, raw or smoked. I didn't do this, but it's a big fishing area and he likely has easy access.
The accommodation was clean, comfortable and spacious. It is an hour’s drive from Taupo town, and 45 mins from Whakapapa Village. Self catering facilities were very good.
Lovely log cabin, the best stocked self catering kitchen we have stayed in in NZ over the years, very friendly and accommodating staff, fireplace with kindling all ready to go and large wood box outside the property.
