Gorgeous location on the lake, surrounded by wild life and a beautiful nature. Very spacious, comfortable, and clean room. Clean and spacious bathroom. The host family is very sweet. They take great care of you, and you only have to ask. Nice and clean sharing kitchen with a conventional oven and electric kettle. Sudhu organizes boat tours on the lake to Bird Island, Temple Island, and Cinnamon Island, which I highly recommend if you're interested in the traditional making of cinnamon. Don't miss lunch or dinner at Kola restaurant, on the lake too. Sudhu can take you there by boat, too. If you're fortunate, you might even spot a crocodile cruising in the water. This is an ideal accommodation for a relaxing, peaceful, stay in the midst of nature and with a wonderful, caring family. The accommodation exceeded our expectations, so we extended our stay to 3 nights and will be back before leaving SL. This location is for nature lovers: we saw eagles, cormorants, fish, monkeys, squirrels, all types of birds, lizards, geckos, and 1 croc in the lake. Nature also means ants and other insects that can share your bathroom at times. Nothing much you can do abt it, but if you dislike sharing with small critters, then you should avoid nature.

With Koggala Beach reachable in a few steps, Shining Line features accommodations, a restaurant, a garden, a bar, and a shared lounge. I cannot thank the owners enough of this guest house. I was involved in an incident which resulted in being admitted into hospital, and the owner went above and beyond to make sure I was okay, checking in with me at the hospital and bringing me food. I’ve never seen such kindness in all my life. The location is amazing and the room was a good size with a nice clean bathroom. They sorted a bike out for me no problem, and are just the most amazing people! Thank you again so much! Definitely recommend!
Ahangama is a busy town within 30 minutes drive to Galle, Galle Fort or Unawatuna to the North, and to Midigama, Weligama and Marissa to the South. So many restaurants/bars within and close to Ahangama, often with live music. Tuk tuks are cheap and taxis easily available for longer drives.
This area of the south coast does not have the nicer beaches you find travelling further east along it. If you like the hippy, surfy, shacky, busy tourist vibe then maybe its for you, but if you want fantastic deserted beaches in unspoilt coastal areas with peace and calm in natural surroundings then move on.
Spent only one night at Thalpe, by far the best place so far in the area. The Seaview was amazing along with the rope swing. Keerthi who was at the place was very helpful even though there was a powerful for 7 hours.
Ahangama was epic! We stayed at a spot called Tharanga surf villa. Seriously great location on a great beach that has waves for all skill levels of surfers. You can hire a board or get a lesson through the hotel even if you like. The breakfasts are incredible and give you a taste of local cuisine. The room is comfortable and all you need - the aircon is a big plus! When the power goes out in the area they have a generator so that’s cool. The people who own and run it are so friendly and helpful. Try hire a scooter to get around to all the different beaches if you’re staying for a while. There are loads of places to eat - try the local places they’re cheaper and their food is super tasty! We ate at a variety of local places and got Kotu and curry. Don’t go to the western owned places and pay triple the price! Try a little spot on the beach just past Open Heart cafe (which also has a great view at sunset) I don’t know the name unfortunately.
We loved it and stayed an extra 3 days. Beautiful quiet clean beach with soft fine white sand, lined with palm trees. Just a few bars and restaurants so not too touristy. Turquoise sea. Stunning sunsets.
The owners are delightful, courteous and accommodating. The outlook is gorgeous as right on the sea. The road is busy and noisy but the ocean is louder! We loved our stay here and the ideal place to relax after our long flight (they arranged a taxi to collect us). It is not that easy to find and don’t confuse with a restaurant called turtle beach which is 2km away.
