Host is very welcoming. Washing machine and dryer are very easy to use. Need to bring your own towels. We forgot. They also have goats and chickens, kids loved it!

Located in Odate in the Akita region, HACHI has a balcony and garden views. It’s a beautiful old house of the Showa era, and it gives a real feeling for the culture of that time. It also has a few entirely modern conveniences which we were less interested in :-) but for people like us who really are interested in the Japan of the mid 20th century, it’s an absolutely delightful stay

Typical basic Japanese business hotel. Seemed to be mainly business men staying there as was a little far from the station. We drove there from the station and plenty of parking. Also there is a city bus to there. Laundry machines. Breakfast adequate with hot/cold food. Pleasant staff but no English spoken.

The best part of staying in this budget hotel is the exceptional breakfast buffet with a great variety of Japanese homemade dishes. It’s within a 10-min walk from the JR station. The public bath is open until late night.

Set in Odate, Akita region, Royal Hotel Odate is situated 50 km from Hirosaki Castle. This 2-star hostel offers a 24-hour front desk and luggage storage space. The location was close to the train station and the Akita dog museum. I only stayed overnight so I missed the chance to see Akita dogs, which I was looking forward to. We arrived late but the warm reception with a complimentary ramen, which is only availble from 7-9 pm, was a delight. The hotel is old but well maintained. The toilet and bath was newly renovated and very clean. The bed was comfortable and conducive to a good night sleep.
