Ik was hier in het weekend van het Sweeps Festival (laatste weekend van April). Fantastische sfeer. Daarnaast heb ik ook nog wat toeristische attracties bezocht, zoals de kathedraal en de Dickens Chalet.
Fort Amherst is heel tof om te bezoeken en doorheen te wandelen. Wij hadden het geluk dat er net een gids was bij het Marine Monument, een indrukwekkende herdenkingsplaats voor gevallen helden uit de eerste en tweede wereldoorlogen. Ook de Historic Dockyard is erg de moeite waard. Je kunt hier oorlogsschepen en een duikboot bewonderen - hier kun je ook op en in. Daarnaast is er een mooi binnenmuseum waar erg veel scheepvaart-gerelateerd materiaal te zien is.
Gillingham is een goede uitvalsbasis voor London. Veel winkels. Iets verder van het centrum een ruim winkelcentrum. Ongeveer een uur rijden vanaf Dover. Bij het water een leuk zwembad.

Het is een leuk, klein hotel. Met een fantastisch ontbijt. Een mooi uitzicht. En behulpzaam personeel. Een goed restaurant waar je morgens ontbijt en waar je ook avonds heerlijk kunt eten.
We hadden net het geluk om het Charles Dickens kerstweekend mee te maken. Dit was heel leuk! Het stadje heeft ook een zeer authentieke vibe. Aangenaam om eens te bezoeken!
