Beaumanoir is located in the Winter Park district, 25 minutes' walk to the Atlantic beaches in Biarritz. This ancient manor combines tradition with modernity, and has a heated swimming pool. The staff were beyond excellent making sure we had what we needed to make our stay wonderful.
The pace of life wonderful. It is very busy but never feels touristy or stressful. We went to the fireworks and the male singers street event and the atmosphere was so relaxed. Amazing to see that amount of people socialising and no stress
The photos do not show the very smart bathroom just modernised. There is also mention of a bunk bed which is wrong. There are double beds in the two bedrooms, and in the lounge a pull out double bed/settee. Lots of places round about to visit. Would be a good place to stay if driving from the north of France to Spain. Very good golf course.
Very beautiful, authentic and preserved medieval town in the Basque Country of France. The downtown area is small and bisected by a river, it doesn't get much prettier than that. The food scene is fantastic, with plenty of Basque and French options - I'd recommend Les Tontons Flingueurs, and PATXAMAMA. Also, try the chocolates there, they are amazing! (L'Atelier du Chocolat, Chocolaterie Puyodebat). The ritzy beaches and charming old town of Biarritz are just a 15-minute drive away.
You need to have a car if you stay at this hotel. There are three hotels in the same property, so if you go to the last one in the compound, there is a restaurant. No dinner available at the IBIS aeroport.
A beautiful area of France, not too touristy, safe, spotless and classy (I believe the French retire to this region, and understandably so). Very little (e)nglish spoken, and this adds to the overall experience. Designer shops everywhere and cheap 20 minute bus rides to surrounding towns and cities. I shouldn't be naming this region as France, because its predominantly Basque, a people who can track their unadlterated ancestry back 10,000 to the Cro Magnon. The Basque have their own language, music, food, etc so you're going to be spoled for choice. Absolutely wonderful area with exceptional history.
Bayonne (Baiona) is a lovely town, very Basque. Great restaurants, and handy for the road south into Spain. BUT: parking is an issue. If you are staying in the centre, the station car park costs upwards of €14. If you like a couple of glasses of wine with dinner... otherwise it's a taxi at similar cost.
Definitely recommend eating in the restaurant and having breakfast at the hotel. We were impressed with the food, hotel service and the rooms were adequately comfy and clean. Around 10 minute walk of Biarritz Airport and number 36 bus gets you into town centre
