Such a fantastic place to stay in Broken Hill. Even after reading all of the happy reviews, we were still amazed by how lovely the house was and how generous the hospitality shown by the host. Anything anyone could want for a comfortable stay was provided, there's been so much love and thought put into creating a sense of home here and the house has so much character. Good beds and linen, a strong hot shower, splendidly equipped kitchen, fast wifi, great heating and every modern convenience. Spacious rooms, so quiet at night. And the treats left out for us went well above and beyond what we could have expected. We appreciated everything about this place, were sad to leave and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

The history of Broken Hill as told by the local tour guides and the excellent signage is not known by many people. It's importance to the economic wealth of the state of NSW and Australia is vastly underestimated by most Australians. A must see destination, well worth the time taken to travel there. We travelled by train, and then hired a car - both great choices. Spoke to the locals as often as possible. From art galleries to going underground in a mine, dining in a park or a club, lookout abound and the views towards the Line of Load from each is different. Broken HIll is more than mining and art. It's the people who saw the opportunities and the challenges. May their future be as exciting as their past.
Broken Hill is interesting in a very different sort of way. Visually stimulating with the earth providing magnificent desert colours and texture whilst having scores of interesting architecture scattered through the town.
Our stay was for a small festival at Silverton. Our day trip out to Silverton was excellent the pub has great character and good food. We had the Burger with the Lot and chips. They have the best chips and an old-fashioned burger with pineapple to boot. The Mad Max Museum was interesting and the host/owner was very chatty and informative about its history. The cottages behind the pub look good for accommodation. We also got to visit the Mad Max Compound and Petting Zoo. My highlight here was seeing an emu lay an egg! The compound is reflective of Mad Max and was built during COVID-19. We also visited the Outdoor Sculpture Gallery - take fly netting as the walk down to the flowers is very flyblown. The Miners Memorial and The Palace are must-visits as well.
It is a great tourist spot but you need people like Milton,s tours to get around easily. I mainly went for a wedding but had to stay because of train times. I mostly ate at the DEMO club. Once again it was handy.
There are plenty of places to visit in Broken Hill. We had 5 nights there and there were still many places that we didn't get to visit. The Visitor Information Centre is excellent, with very informative and helpful assistants and plenty of brochures to look at. (Plus plenty of seating, tables, toilet facilities and a Gloria Jeans cafe) The heritage walking tour around the CBD area was worthwhile and our guide, Judy, gave us much insight into the history of this interesting outback city. We were fortunate to be able to join the Wontanella walking tour on the shores of one of the Menindee lakes. Dave, the tour guide, was very informative, happy to answer our many questions and gave us an insight to the lives of the people who lived there. The Broken Hill Mining Museum and White's Mineral Art Gallery is a must. Don't be put off by the exterior of the place. Larry, a former B.H. miner, has so much knowledge of the mining history and is able to put it in an interesting and informative manner. One can get a feel of being in a mine, without going underground! "Bushy" White's mineral art work that is on display is amazing. The GEO Centre (The Albert Kersten Mining and Mineral Museum) is definitely worth a visit: one does not have to be a geologist to admire the incredible displays of stunning mineral crystals. The Line of Lode memorial on top of the "hill" was very sobering as one reflects on the huge number of miners killed in extracting the ore, that has brough great wealth to our country. The Pro Hart gallery was also worth a visit. Plenty of places to eat or to get a takeaway (delicious food from the Kebab House). Enjoyed lunch at the Silverton Pub, which had many, many photos of its history in films and commercials.
Broken Hill is a unique Australian outback city with plenty to see and do in the town itself and within a comfortable drive. A lot of cafes, pubs and clubs to eat at and one high class restaurant - Saltbush. Additionally, museums and art galleries. The Living Desert including the Sculptor Park is well worth a look
