Best things about the property would be the location. Rooms were basic but comfortable. The hosts were very accommodating, they provide cutlery boxes on loan if you want to eat some of your meals in your room. On-site restaurant was excellent.

We liked the comfortable, laid back, friendly atmosphere. The property was lush with foliage everywhere, beautiful flowering plants and we liked the swimming holes in addition to our spacious room. Breakfast was great and the dinners, both evenings, were delicious.

Excellent value for this area and for what you get. If you get the chance to stay here I recommend three nights! We stayed for 2 nights because that's all there was available. Wonderful staff.

The grounds were charming. Rooms are a bit rustic. Think summer camp cabins, but with better linens and slightly more comfortable beds. It felt like a big layer of foam. I appreciated the air conditioning and power outlets. Each room has a porch with chairs. The restaurant/bar was nicer in ambiance and food than expected. It was enjoyable to hang out there in the evenings under the string lights with the music. Staff was always very friendly. My scrambled eggs were delicious and dressed up more than expected with onions and herbs.

Our accommodation in Diwan was in an excellent location for exploring the amazing Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation. Nothing was further than 25 minutes away by car including Cow Bay, the Daintree Rainforest Discovery Centre, Thornton's Beach, Cape Tribulation, Cooper Creek Croc Cruise and various interesting boardwalks.
We were predominantly self-catering, so we can't comment on the quality of most of the cafes and restaurants in the area. We did enjoy morning coffees at the Daintree Fan Palm Farm, which also offers organic pies, organic wholefoods and organic fresh local produce. The one meal we had out was at The Beach House in Cape Tribulation, where we shared a generous serve of fish tacos.
Some restaurants can get very busy in the middle of the day when tour groups stop for lunch. Also be aware that they mostly finish their lunch service at 2.00pm.

Diwan is an excellent area from which to explore Daintree NP. Close to Cow Bay and Thornton Beach, with the towering Thornton Peak looming ever present. Take a drive to Mason's Cafe for lunch and a dip in the waterhole. You cannot swim at the beaches due to crocs, heed the warnings! There are great walks contructed in the forest which are well worth doing.Supplies are basic cf. what you can buy in a large supermarket. Buy your supplies before you cross the river, in Mossman. If you are staying a few days, consider if you will need to cross the river repeatedly as there is a toll and it may be more economical to buy a week pass, depending on what you do. I spent 4 days as a solo traveller, after some reef snorkelling from Pt. Douglas. I spent the time exploring the area north of the river, up to Cape Tribulation. The beaches are breathtaking, even for an Aussie like me. Just the sounds of the forest, the birds, the frogs and insects an
d the wind through the trees...divine. I felt so peaceful when I arrived home.

Lovely place to stay for a romantic retreat.
Lovely place to stay for a romantic retreat. The waterway is gorgeous as are the surrounding gardens. The bed was firm and comfortable.
We went during the offseason and saw cassowaries regularly around the area.
It was quite wet, but humid and hot whilst we were there.
There were no flyscreens so we couldn't leave the windows open, which meant the place heated up so we think it requires some portable fans. It could also do with better internet connection, but perfect for those wishing to disconnect from civilisation and really enjoy nature. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to any couple who are after a peaceful and private trip away.
The icecream shops are a huge highlight.
