The location, directly across from Payne's Beach, was excellent for water time and sunbathing. The not-too-big facility is quite laid back and all the other guests were very friendly and easy to approach. Shared meals with new acquaintances were a bonus. I cam mainly to relax and read so the balcony of my room - with sea view - was a fine quiet retreat.

Massy's supermarket is great for supplies.
Zaccios is a nice restaurant
The blue and yellow buses run between Bridgetown, through Holetown and on to Speightstown. Fare is B$ 3.50 (2025) flat rate, and they run frequently from early morning to late evening.
Our favourite place for a breakfast and lunch is Cafe Carizma in the Chattel Village next to Massy's. And there is a large car park between to supermarket and the Village.

St James is a relaxed part of the island with stunning beaches and vibrant beach bars. Swim safely, take a boat trip or socialise in style with your friends. Travel north or south on one of the many characterful, inexpensive buses that pass through to see traditional local neighbourhoods intertwined with some impressive new properties. Old Barbados co-exists with new to weave a Caribbean vibe to suit anyone’s expectations. Whether on a budget or treating yourself for a special occasion, You won’t be disappointed.

We liked the local restaurants, not the expensive ones the good value ones where locals eat. We used the "yellow buses", a total experience not to be missed!! Very reasonable bus fares. Varied beaches, however plenty to choose from if one is prepared to investigate. We're both 72 years of age, so we had plan our days to suit us.

St. James is my favorite parish to stay while visiting Barbados.
The parish owns many white beautiful sandy beaches on the west coast of the island. Public and private transportation is easily accessible along Highway 1A.
I love staying in or close to the Holetown vicinity since there is everything within reached ( Massey (grocery), restaurants, banks, water sports and nightlife.
I dined at QP Bistro twice during my trip because the staff, food, ambiance and the entertainment is phenomenal.
Also, Just Grillin Sunset Crest is a good restaurant to grab lunch or dinner but there is always a long line; the food is good.
Zaccios restaurant makes a good pizza.
In addition, on first and second street in Holetown, nightlife is vibrant

Our area was away from the main tourist hotspots.
Our area was away from the main tourist hotspots. The busses were regular and cheap into Bridgetown and out to Holetown as well. There was only about one place to eat within easy walking distance but a good supermarket in Holetown and local shops nearer.
The nearest beach was nice and shady and there was a lot of room on it as it was mainly used by locals. There was some snorkeling at each end and adjoining beaches were equally nice with a little more in the way of facilities.

upon our arrival, they warmly welcomed us and showed us the whole house, which is spacious, clean and in a quiet environment. we really liked it there and highly recommend it. The owners of the house Pat and John are very nice. Pat prepared a fish for us which was very good. we really liked that there is a shower outside that you can use when you come from the beach. The location was great, close to everywhere.

Location is fantastic. The food at the hotel café is excellent and we ate there several times. Several restaurants within walking distance, ranging from high end (QP Bistro) to very local (Roti Den). Also a small, very nice beach almost right across the street, with entertaining snorkeling opportunities (we brought our own masks and snorkels). Bus stops are very short walk from the compound. The Massy grocery store in Holetown is amazing and a short bus ride away.
This was our 2nd time at the Waves and we've been going to the island for over 10 years - it's an incredible hotel and the staff really make it. The food is great, along with drinks and Barbados is paradise!
We look forward to being back to the magical island very soon!
