The Host was very responsive to all my inquiries, which was great. And the milk and breakfast goodies were very much appreciated!! The unit is very spacious, and the kitchen was well- equipped, so it was easy to cook our meals. The main attractions on Orkney are all relatively close - about 15-45 minutes depending on where you are going-since the Island is not that big. We liked the location because it was a beautiful drive to get there and was near the water and St. Margaret's Hope for the ferry. You can also walk to the Sands Hotel, which was a great place to have dinner. Our only challenge was that the host sent pictures of where the lockbox for the keys were so I knew it was on a post, but it was a bit hard to tell what unit ours was, and I'm not sure I would have found the lockbox without the help of the neighbor. A better narrative description of which unit was ours and where the lock box is- right across from the door- would have helped.
Located in Saint Margarets Hope, 25 miles from Maeshowe, Murray Arms Hotel and Seafood Restaurant, Orkney provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a restaurant and a bar.

We have visited Orkney a number of times but have always been based around Stromness. It was nice to see another part of the island. The Sands Hotel is within easy walking distance and serves lunch and dinner.

Hotel was in a lovely location with sea view only a short drive from the ferry terminal small harbour area to front of hotel was nice but to the rear and side of hotel there was a boatbuilding repair yard and some sort of fish business other wasteland which was very untidy and not maintained which slightly spoiled the overall quality of hotel surroundings.

The village itself is quiet and agreeable without being spectacularly attractive: the hotel is at the core, in a water-front location, and supplies most of the excitement from a tourist point of view. But the location is generally a good one, within easy reach of Kirkwall and most of the Mainland sights in one direction and of South Ronaldsay in the other. The Italian chapel and the nice small town of St Margaret's Hope are both close. A good base for exploring the area.

very handy for Pentland firth ferry from GILLS BAY TO ST MARGARETS HOPE. only a ten minute drive to Kirkwall and thirty minutes to Stromness. Skara brae is about forty minutes away and you could drive around mainland in a hour and a quarter. Sands hotel in Burray had comfortable rooms and a great restaurant ,definitely look to book B&B
as breakfast will set you up for rest of day. Bus stop at road end of village about 150 metres from hotel with buses going all around island ,dont be put off even if you dont drive.
