Great location, right around the corner from the strip with the tavernas. If you arrive by car there’s a parking lot nearby where you can park for free with a note from the hotel manager. The apartment is brand new and all the kitchen hardware is top notch: Blum soft-closing slides for the cabinets, nice water faucets and good drainage.

We stayed in the No Problem apartment which was spacious, had lots of amenities and a pretty balcony overlooking the harbor. Comfortable bed, nice shower, lots of storage space. Quick walk to Vrisi Beach, water taxi, restaurants.

Would not recommend. No coffee no water no tea. Nothing. Only a clean bed

I did not stay in the hotel shown. I was in an older hotel run by them. It was clean but it was not in the hotel advertised. Needs new refrigerator.
Offering a sun terrace and a public beach nearby, Taverna Akrogiali is located in Lykos in the Crete Region. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant.

Stayed one night and really regretted not staying a bit longer. Beautiful and calm location on the beach. Modern, clean and comfortable room. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel & everything was really good.
One can access the hotel by a boat (the owner proposes to hop on his boat from Loutro or you can take a taxi boat-about 30€ ). It's about 40 min walk from Loutro (it was more of a mini hike rather than a stroll). You can also reach the location by car, keep in mind that it is a narrow mountain road (although in a good state), wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is scared of heights and doesn't like winding roads.
Located in Anopoli Sfakion, Platanos Rooms has a terrace, restaurant, bar, and free WiFi throughout the property. The hotel features family rooms. At the hotel, the rooms have a closet.

The village is quite small, but perfect for those looking for a quiet break in stunning scenery. There are plenty of restaurants and a few shops, but not really suitable for people wanting a busy atmosphere. The big bonus is that boats run regularly to nearby beaches and villages, some of which can only be accessed by water. Sweet Water beach is well worth a visit, and has a small taverna, and the village of Loutro is great for a leisurely lunch. The area is also good for walkers, with the Imbros gorge nearby. Highly recommended.

Small coastal village off the beaten tourist track with some lovely, quiet sea-front tavernas and a wide selection of excellent accommodation. Small beach in town and another a twenty minute walk away. Boats daily to other locations on this part of the coast. Excellent Ktel bus service from Chania Bus Station stops in village (one hour and forty minutes). Samaria and Imbros Gorge walks close by.

I have been here many times, and it was great every time. The small town is beautiful, and it has everything within meters. A perfect place to write a book or work on a math problem. Make sure you try Despina's coffee and cakes. If the water is a bit cold in April or October, then take a short drive to Francocastello, as the water there is always 2-3 degrees warmer.

A beautiful picturesque village.
A beautiful picturesque village. Nice beaches reachable by boat or walking (bring good shoes).
Strangely, I did not find the locals very friendly - unlike Greece in general. Perhaps this is the effect of overtourism, which is an increasing problem in Greece, even in small villages. For example, the staff at the small information kiosk at the bus station is very unfriendly. (In cities such as Chania and Iraklio one can see lots of graffiti "Tourists go home", "Fuck off tourists" etc -- which I can understand very well, given the devastating consequences of overtourism. I went to Crete for business and added a few days off, but if I had the choice, I would never go to Greece in the summer.)

Pleasant but too touristy and very bad food at the otherwise nicely located restaurants along the waterfront. Good to catch ferry or water taxi to very beautiful beaches nearby.
Bakery is great (Markos and Niiki)

Here you can take a fantastic hike from Sfakion to Mamera.
Here you can take a fantastic hike from Sfakion to Mamera. It takes a full day - around 10-12 kilometers and you need to be in good shape. I would not go there for the beaches - there are much better beaches elswhere in Greece - and certainly not go there with small children. Kids around 14 -15 you can bring along the hike if they are up for the physical challenge.
