It was spacious, clean and comfortable. Although it was very close to the centre of Carlisle, it was also quiet and had a very private feel to it, probably because of its main entrance being around the back, the front entrance being closed off. Also, you enter the hotel directly from the spacious car park, and the satnav took us straight to the car park. The meals in the evening were excellent and the breakfast was great - informal friendly setting and helpful staff.

I have passed through Carlisle numerous times by train, car and bus but never stopped there. I was curious to have a proper look at the town and was very pleasantly surprised by what I found. A charming town with a wide selection of places to eat and drink, the cathedral and castle were well worth visiting and the general atmosphere was friendly and welcoming.

Lots to explore in Carlisle and the surrounding area. The Cathedral is fantastic, and there are regular free recitals in the afternoons to check out. You won't be disappointed with the wide range of bars and restaurants - something to suit every taste.

Very interesting town but sadly we were only there for one night. We will be back to do some more exploring and will definitely stay at the Crown and Mitre Hotel again!
Carlisle felt safe, walkable, lots of shops near the hotel and lots of places just down past the train station. A very “walkable” town to explore.

Just had a 1-night stop here to break up a long train journey. Plenty of reasonably priced accommodation near the railway station and lots of eating options in the town centre as well as quite a few good pubs.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in a club room. The hotel is well used but overall it was good. The room was large with a good view of the square. The breakfast was buffet style and of good quality. The location of the hotel is right in the centre and ideal for shopping etc. I would recommend it for a stay in Carlisle.
The hotel is located in a relatively quiet area outside the centre of Carlisle, although it's not too far away either. The staff were very friendly and helpful and everything seemed to work as it should. Breakfast was good and included in the very reasonable overall price. Ample parking.
We received an upgrade to a suite on arrival which made our stay even nicer. Great location for onward train travel into Carlisle made it very convenient for our needs. This hotel is certainly on the radar for a return.
This was a lovely hotel based in the center of Carlisle, a few steps from the train station and close to all amenities pubs bars restaurants, and old fire station for bands ect.
Would highly recommend
