The whole experience was very pleasant. The room was typical of a newer Japanese hotel (with a window between the bathing area and the bedroom!), the breakfast quite superb, with local foods along with a wide variety of options, including made-to-order omelets. Of all the hotels we stayed during our one-week trip to the northern parts of Japan, this was overall the most elegant hotel experience, It was a wonderful start to our journey. It is conveniently located across from the Sakata station, in a new building which houses the city library and high-end fashion shops.

Great location near the train station with decent prices. Breakfast had a lot of selection, and you won't leave hungry. Go to Mito Sushi for some great inexpensive sushi. To get to the shrines, it is best to rent a car outside the train station and bring your international driver's license

I had an excellent view of the Japan Sea. My room was big and spacious and felt unique with traditional tatami and wooden floors. The private onsen with sauna and dry room was wonderful! I regret not using it both nights. The staff was helpful and friendly. I enjoyed their self serve coffee/beverage station with tables overlooking their beautiful Japanese garden on the terrace. They also offer cute little treats to eat with your drink which I thought was so lovely.

I was surprised to find out that the Hotel has its own Onsen, which guests can use for free! The Onsen facility is good, with lots of amendments in the male facility. It was a great experience! The breakfast facility is also free.
Sakata is a very quiet town with a few facilities.
Sakata is a very quiet town with a few facilities. Most of the attractions are walkable if you stay close to the river, slightly long walk from train station. You can visit all attractions within a day (two night stays recommended if you arrived late). Please make sure that the day you arrive all the places are open (not Tuesday or Wednesday). Another interesting town in Japan for a visit.
