Mestia is absolutely gorgeous and well worth the 10+ hour drive from Tbilisi, *but* you do need to realise it is an incredibly seasonal destination. If you're not there during the peak seasons of summer and the ski season (December 21st onwards), it is a ghost town.
We spent a lovely, relaxing week there, but there was very little open, both in terms of restaurants and attractions.

Mestia was a nice winter getaway to chill, get away from the hustle & bustle of the city and to simply enjoy and commune with nature. I love the Svan Towers, such amazingly unique architectural feat endemic to the Caucasus mountains! Locals were very welcoming and friendly. Everything was accessible within minutes by foot since it’s a small town. The drive, though long, winding & bumpy from Zugdidi, was so gorgeous with the Fall foliage & its vibrant colors; a winter wonderland landscapes, snowcapped mountains, and river dotted the landscape!

Mestia, capital of Svaneti region.
Mestia, capital of Svaneti region. The BEST region in Georgia & the best region I visited so far in Europe! There is no other place like Svaneti. The mountains are gorgeous, you cannot capture it in pictures. They have lovely ancient culture. Traditional foods like Kubdari, tashmijab, Svan salt and more. Svaneti has an incredibly interesting history with many little museums. Friendly people & the town has a very calm countryside village vibe when you go off the main road. It might take a bit longer to get here by car, but it’s absolutely worth it!!
I recommend for:
-Traditional Svan food: Chalet Mestia Restaurant
-Fast food: Setis Shouarma (very tasty shoarma!!)
-Coffee: Erti Kava (is a bit more expensive!)
-BBQ food: Mestia BBQ Garden (in summer only)
-Museum: Ratiani House Museum (must visit if you want to know more abour Svan culture!)
If you can definetly take a day trip to Ushguli with one of the shared taxi’s or marshrutkas.

Mestia has beautiful spots too hike, little too much touristy when I compare other remote places in Georgia. I suggest to discover outside of it too not only populat Mestia hiking routes, there are glaciers, lakes and waterfalls around.

Scenic, snow capped, mountains and landscapes around.
Scenic, snow capped, mountains and landscapes around. Many options for trekking during summer. Ski resorts during winter. The drive to Mestia is an experience in itself. Self drivable mountain roads, 5 hrs from Kutaisi and 5.5 hrs from Batumi.
Better to drive an SUV as couple of view points/ attractions have no paved roads. However, a regular sedan should work with extra caution.

Charming and caring hosts, attentive and great with children. Cozy and clean hotel with a warm atmosphere, including great views from the room and the big terrace. The food was amazing and the restaurant menu offered a broad variety of Georgian and special Svanetian dishes. The breakfast was rich, combining freshly prepared salads and hot snacks.
Massi, their family dog may be impressive in his appearance but he is certainly one of the most relaxed and kid-friendly dogs we have ever met. Our two year old daughter loved him.
I travelled in many countries and stayed in many places, but I must say this (special) one was definitly the best I had ever stayed! If someone invented the word Hospitality, that would be Nana, Marika and all their family! I felt at home from the moment I entered the guesthouse , they welcomed me very warmly and it was so nice to share moments with them .And the breakfast, so delicious! Definitly the best place to stay in Mestia and Georgia!
We decided to go for a suite and we were happily surprised to enter a spotless clean, very comfortable and spacious apartment with extraordinary views on the mountains and the towers of Mestia. We loved the wooden mountain atmosphere of the hotel and we also organized our excursions with the reception. Staff was always willing to help which is a plus in Georgia where we had frustrating experiences in more than one places.
We liked everything about this place. Hospitality, Ambience, Place, Food, Rooms. Everything was best.
We stayed here for 3 days and and George was extremely helpful with everything that we needed.
The rooms were extremely clean and Breakfast was amazing.
George's hospitality was the best.
This is the best hotel and resort in full of Mestia.
Owner is also very nice and he let us do Gardenning showed the place around.
One can easily walk to the main street in Mestia and to restaurants, even though the hotel is a little further away, next to the church on the hill.
There is a rooftop terrace.
The receptionist gave good advice about restaurants nearby.
