This was genuinely one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The bungalows are amazing, every little decoration thought through, with wonderful views of the sand dunes, I felt like I was in paradise. The food is great, staff extremely kind and helpful and the location stunningly beautiful. The place felt very much chich and high end in spite of being an eco-resort: the bed was amazingly comfortable, the bathroom spacious and clean and the room overall was just stunningly beautiful and comfortable. They even gave a kenyan phone and a bluetooth speakers, which I thought was brilliant.
For the price, I found this resort to be a steal and I hope to be back someday. If you're looking for a place immersed in nature where to disconnect and soak in the beauty of starry skies, sand dunes and empty beaches, look no further.

The owner Mohamed is lovely and completely trustworthy. I felt very safe there. He was super helpful and met me at the dock to bring me to the hotel. He has some great recommendations for where to eat and how to book a dhow trip. You will not find a cheaper accommodation on the island! Excellent value. The rooms even have private bathrooms!

The staff and the owner, Monika, were wonderful!! I stayed for one night before joing a group at another location and loved the grounds and the friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicous (both breakfast and dinner)! I didn't partake of the yoga due to timing, but I definitely would plan on it if I stayed again. I actually checked in for my last 2 nights on Lamu and was under the weather. Monika made sure I had a special dawa (a delicious chai tea) and the sweet staff took such good care of me. I loved it there.

Here's a refined version of your review:
"My stay at this hotel was absolutely fantastic! The hotel itself is stunning, and the on-site restaurant is hands down the best in town. The food was incredible, the views were breathtaking, and the overall vibe was perfect. Every member of the staff was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to assist with anything I needed. It was an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommend!"

Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history.
Lamu is a mesmerizing town with a beautiful history. The people are very friendly and welcoming. For instance - the town can be like a labyrinth, which makes it a bit challenging sometimes to find spots - even with Google Maps. Either people ask you if you need help or you can ask them and they show you the way - many of them even walked us to the location. This experience was so wonderful - I would definitely come back again.

Great, quaint town.
Great, quaint town. The scent of the donkey excrement is off-putting but seeing them is sublime. Being a coastal town, there are many ‘captains’. I had my transport pre-organized with my accommodation so be weary of that and potential scams, as well as the impromptu tour guides. Touch water, take a sunset sail boat ride, and visit the beach, maybe even Shela. Locals were very nice and friendly, warm welcomes. Affordable restaurants as well, Sailor’s Joint for example. I stayed at Subira House.

A beautiful resort, with many amenities with a lot of details paid to the decor. Unfortunately, not the same attention was given to the 3 restaurants. Poor quality food with a limited selection except for a very nice breakfast buffet. Had confirmed a twin bedded room, but did not receive one. The beds are extremely firm as the mattress sits on a cement platform but does have a nicely hung mosquito net.
Easy access across the water to Lamu.

- The ocean activities are marvelous!
- The ocean activities are marvelous! Amazing experience, memories I will always treasure. Food was also nice, a lot of seafood. Very culturally rich too!
- The town is dirty, because of monkeys, people in Lamu seem to have gotten used to it, but for an outsider its not. In addition, they don't treat the donkeys right, so it's sad to see them suffering. Lamu is a small town, I wish they would think of other means of transport and at least for people just walking, donkeys should be forbidden. There was also a lot of trash on the street, even in monuments.

We loved our stay and were sad to leave.
Jua House is beautiful, airy and comfortable. The staff are very warm and hospitable and Amani, in particular, is an exceptional host.
We enjoyed meeting and mingling with other guests at the communal breakfast table - that's a really nice social touch.
We liked being situated in the heart of Shela, staying among the very friendly and accommodating local community.
If you want to explore Lamu Old Town, Subira House is a perfect choice for you. The staff are super nice and will help you sort out arrangements for walking tours, sunset cruises etc. Oh and make sure to have the traditional Swahili three course dinner they offer - it was delicious and served in an incredible setting!
- The hospitality of the staff ;

- Its swahili cuisine (excellent breakfast) as well as its pool and architecture
