The hotel and the whole area it covers with the vast agricultural area is quite exceptional. The rooms are plain but still elegant. It is a very tranquil place that has a lot to offer especially for families. The whole staff is amazing, they were helpful with everything we needed.

The location was right in the center of the historical village of Monsaraz a beautiful gem, completely walled in and on top of a hill with beautiful sights; the room decoration was with African art motif, the breakfast was great!

Just 1.2 mi from Monsaraz Castle, Monte Alerta is surrounded by a meditation garden, organic orchard and next to the largest artificial lake in Europe, the Alqueva.

Monsaraz, more specifically the castle, is certainly a must for anyone visiting Alentejo.
The view is absolutely breathtaking, overseeing the Alqueva dam and the beautiful Alentejo. It's also quite rich in history, weaved into its quaint rocky streets and schist houses. Like its "big cousin" Marvão, the sunsets are particularly stunning. I know they aren't related, but they do feel similar ok? However, the citadel is not ideal for people with lower mobility or not ready to spend too much in the many tourist-focused restaurants.
A couple hours should be enough for a tour, since it's not very big.
The region itself do deserve some more time. Feel free to take a dip in Alqueva, do a hike in the countryside dotted by millennia old megalithic monuments or simply star gaze.

Have lunch at Xarez. The village is just beautiful. We visit to the Observatory was good too. The walk we attempted around the lake was slightly difficult as the paths were blocked presumably because of conservation issues.

Small family run bed and breakfast with character and history. Simple, attractive room had beautiful views over the countryside. Breakfast was nice and in a lovely room with views. Friendly service. Overnight parking in small square a few steps away. Need to park elsewhere during the day (between 11am and 6pm). Monsaraz is a truly delightful town. Some good restaurants but not all are always open.
we were travelling by public transport and there was no bus at the time we arrived. we contacted Helena to ask for the number of a taxi bus when we arrived in Reguenos, half an hour away she was waiting to greet us and take us to Monsaraz. Great hospitality.
Monsaraz was lovely. We hiked, swam and enjoyed the views
Loved the privacy and atmosphere of Casa Dona Antonia in the greatest little hilltop town in the Alentejo (wine and cork) region of Portugal. Comfortable room, gracious hosts, beautiful sunset from the terrace and a delicious breakfast.
The hotel is located on a wonderful spot , just outside of the old town Monsaraz. The gardens are divine and includes a pool. It is just a magical spot to stay.
