Good choice of restaurants with some posh chocolate shops and good beers. Quite a good range of chain stores and niche smaller shops.
Really like its compactness and easy train ride from Brussels.

The Japanese Garden, the largest in Europe, is well worth a visit.
Best restaurant we found was de Orangerie, sited in a long atrium. Nice menu includes Flemish favourites. Attentive staff.
Best bar is Koks&Tales, a slick cocktail bar.

This was planned as a "pit-stop" enroute to another destination. We were pleasantly surprised by Hasselt. Charming town with good stylist shopping and great choice of wine-bars. Very friendly hospitable people.

Hasselt is a really interesting visit.
Hasselt is a really interesting visit. Its a small city centre that you can walk around with ease. Clean and very modern. Heavily pedestrianised so easy to get around on foot. Has a bit of an 'upmarket Brighton' feel about it. We liked it. Good for a long weekend visit (but no more).
Its not cheap to eat out in Hasselt but there is a huge amount of choice. We struggled to choose restaurants (wish we had eaten in the Orangery, as setting was lovely). People seemed very affluent and well dressed. Lots of shops.
We stayed for the Plopsa Indoor attraction, which we thought was very good. Our hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the city centre to the venue (the reviews suggest parking there is expensive). Attraction great for the kids and, even though summer, was surprisingly quiet. One word of advice, don't eat there. Its over priced and terrible.

Hasselt is a cute town.
Hasselt is a cute town. We were there when the shops were closed but the nightlife and choice of restaurants in the centre were great. We ate at a fantastic restaurant called Botanique (cater for vegetarians and vegans) and the service was great.

Hasselt is a small accessible city with many trendy shops, restaurants and bars (cocktail, wine ...). However, if you want to eat at a restaurant of your choice, it's advisable to book!
The best way to get around is by bicycle - once again, it's advisable to
book your bicycle in advance.
The city is safe for walking at night.
By car, it's close to beautiful woods and country side with plenty of excellent hiking paths.

I have stayed in Radisson hotels before but this one was exceptional. The room was spacious, clean, bathroom floor heated (!), plenty of seating, the window could be opened (not always a given), excellent lift system.
The breakfast was out of this world, I have never seen such a spread. Fantastic.
Staff was very friendly. A bowl of apples, water and a biscuit available in the lounge during the day. I didn't visit the roof terras this time but have been there in the past as a walk-in. Very nice.
Breakfast was great - plenty of it. The staff were welcoming, helpful and a highlight of our stay. Parking and somewhere to leave our bikes. Very quirky with lots of antiques / decorative items. Walkable into Hasselt. ( not close but we enjoyed the walk) . Well placed for cycling routes easy to turn heating up in room to dry off our cycling shoes after going through some very deep puddles!!!!!!
Very good location, bright and comfortable room, big bathroom. Really friendly and helpful staff. Free water and coffee, this is really great. In general - this is a really lovely hotel, furthermore, they allow having dogs here.
Also, I value an early breakfast possibility.
Excellent hotel, great staff and good service. The hotel was as good as expected and quite quicky in it's design and decor and very centrally placed with the city. Would recommend.
