The setting of the hotel being a tad out-of-town made it extra peaceful and gave it a beautiful country feel. Our room was fantastic as it was called the “Castle Suite” and was exceptionally large with a living room and even a little dinette area. A fireplace as well.

This is a really nice hotel and our room was fantastic. A very well laid out and spacious room with amazing views of Killarney National Park.
Also throughout the hotel the level of cleanliness was clear to be seen as it was spotless.
All of the staff were engaging and very friendly and a credit to the hotel. In particular the young lady working behind the bar went to a different floor to get the drink I ordered; what service!
Breakfast was another standout. Usually buffet breakfasts are not up to scratch but this was not the case here. All of the hot food was actually still hot and cooked to perfection
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we were delighted with the gifts the hotel had arranged for us on our arrival

Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.
Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.
The town is quaint and quiet. I arrived too late for the 14 December parade. The HOHO bus just takes you to sites in the free national Park. No other buses go down that way. It's walkable just long (I know because I walked down to muck Ross house and back). You need to book ahead to see Ross castle but it's just a museum in a modern remodel so nothing like the ruin I expected. Great national Park for "hiking". Tour bus driver bragged about hiking them all, but I have hiked Mt Rainier so I was not impressed. Ireland national Park is a lot like Acadia in maine. Tours on the ring of Kerry stop at locations I would skip. And like most bus tours the stops are probably connected to some commercial benefit. The Quills store in sneem is not a scam. Same price as the one in Killarney except Sneem has general Irish souvenirs too making it a convenient place to shop. Not really sure what the hype is all about.

The Town as dressed for Christmas and they go all out.
The Town as dressed for Christmas and they go all out. Every shop, bar restaurant made us feel very welcome.
We were there or the Irish Tarmac Rally so didn't get to see many sights and unfortunately the weather was a bit wet.
We still had a fantastic time and will definitely return.
We hopped from bar to bar and loved the atmosphere, my favourite was Pigs Lane, an underground bar with a great whisky selection and specialist cocktails. We ate at the Tan Yard on our final night and had a lovely meal at a sensible price- 3 courses and drinks around 65 euro each.

We were holed up there one day during a storm when it was too dangerous to drive. So if you're looking for shelter from an Atlantic storm, Rose Cottage provides the perfect place to spend your time. Facilities were good, everything you need provided including a washing machine, and clothes could be dried indoors. Just had to drive into town on narrow tree-lined roads to stock up on food.

Killarney is a beautiful town.
Killarney is a beautiful town. I was visiting for work and wish I had more time to explore out and around the town. It has an abundance of restaurants and bars in the town centre, it is very walkable, and the locals were friendly and welcoming. We ate at Kitty O'Shea's and Salvadore's . Both restaurants had a lovely vibe, helpful friendly staff and the menus catered well for vegan options. Particularly Kitty O'Shea's. And good value for money I thought. Main courses around €20 or less for my options. We went for pre dinner bevvies at a cute tiny pub called The Speakeasy Bar which had an open fire. We could have stayed all evening if we didn't have to move along for dinner.

I'd driven through Killarney before, and was Not impressed,,, But this time it was different... Busy downtown area for sure, but we navigated through it all easily... We drove the Ring of Kerry one day, stopping at a few places along the way, and the other day we found the Torc waterfall, Muckross Abbey, and Ross Castle... Great visit..
