Beyond charming! A stunning port town with great views, delightful little streets with beautiful shops. Just amazing. Absolutely captured my heart.
Delicious local seafood practically everywhere and the most amazing ice cream at La Martinere - we visited every night.
The covered market is pretty special.
The port itself is lovely.

Probably the liveliest place to stay on the island with plenty of restaurants/shops etc. As the main centre the free hop on/off bus service around the island was great - as was the ease of hiring bicycles and the associated cycle ways. Some excellent local wines too.

Plenty of good eating places with our hotel top of our list.
Plenty of good eating places with our hotel top of our list.
Everywhere within easy walking with car access very limited and difficult in the old narrow streets.
Worth doing some work on parking - we paid dearly for taking the obvious easy option and not spending the necessary time understanding the copious details and getting out our calculators.

Beautiful place, great for families.
Beautiful place, great for families. Leave the car in one of the car parks on the periphery of town and enjoy easy cycles and fresh air! We didn’t use our car again once the bikes were hired for the week. We went out of season, can imagine the cycling gets a bit manic in high season.

The overall ambiance is superb. Good restaurants.
The overall ambiance is superb. Good restaurants. Very busy during the day.
Not the cheapest on Ile de Re and certainly not in France. Bridge toll is high.
Weather can be very fickle..............
We love it and the rest of the island.
Parking is very expensive but parking at the beach less than a mile to walk back is free.

Saint Martin de Re is worth visiting and there lovely fish restaurants, shops and possibly to go on cruises.
But I would recommend anyone not to stay at La Maison Douce as I had a terrible experience.
Book hotel in advance as it gets very busy until end of September.

The location is excellent - right by The harbour with a plethora of restaurants, bars and shops. The accomodation I feel oversells itself. We did not have breakfast (although I'm sure they were excellent) as we preferred to step outside to eat and enjoy the local atmosphere rather than a sterile breakfast room. No doubt it is an impressive property but as accommodation it's really just a posh guest house masquerading as a five star hotel that happens to be in a great location.
The hotel was excellent and clearly warranted its 5* rating. It was perfectly positioned on the harbour front, close to shops and restaurants - spoilt for choice - and to the free island bus service.
A family run hotel with a fantastic location, the rooms are cleaned every day and Sophie the owner is lovely and helpful with arrangements to from airport and local places to visit
Hotel was very French chic set in a cobbled street. It was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast had lots of homemade produce. They accommodated well for gluten free guest.
