The Hotel is ideally located for the Mountains. It was clearly very popular with walkers doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing and the 'Round the Mountain Circuit. Self Catering facilities are good. Restaurant is good. Double bed was comfortable. Washbasin in the room. Staff very friendly. Great views from the Guest Lounge and Bar Balconies.

Great family run lodge with an owner who really cares about the experience. Booked a single room which was affordable, quiet and has a sink and towel provided. Had dinner and drinks in the bar which were also good and well priced. Facilities were clean and very close to the room. Would recommend staying here.

Mountain Heights Lodge, hotel in National Park

Set in National Park, Mountain Heights Lodge offers six self-contained motel units and four ensuite B&B rooms, BnB rooms welcomes children over the age of 14 and above. Private parking is free.

We had a very pleasant one night stay at this lodge. Our room was large, clean, with loads of natural light and ventilation and very comfortable. We also had a huge balcony. Being on the second floor meant we had a most wonderful view across the mountains. The bed linens and towels were of a good quality. A continental breakfast was provided, access to a shared kitchen and there was tea and coffee facilities in our room. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful and gave us good advice to do the 2 hr Taranaki Loop walk in an anti clockwise direction so as to capture a better and longer view of the mountain.

The management is chaotic. I lost my ski poles.

The management is chaotic. I lost my ski poles. It took me an hour to find them among three girls. I found that all their equipment was someone else's. I was shocked. There were too many novices. My friend's child was hit three times in one day. It was really dangerous.

We loved our visit. Fantastic views and quality time.

We loved our visit. Fantastic views and quality time. Easy to get around in a standard car. Weather conditions were clear and bright, mild cold temperatures so a very minimal amount of ice on the road. We recommend the sky waka gondola. The skotel alpine resort is a good place to stay.

The isite leaves a lot to be desired.

The isite leaves a lot to be desired. It could easily go from barely adequate to basic competence by putting boards outside stating the office is closed. As walkers are supposed to register their walks on the mountain you wonder how accurate their information is when the office is closed and there isn’t even a notice board outside for walkers to use to show they’ve left or returned. The village in summer, now the Chateau is closed, has very little available accommodation. There is a shop for basics and Skotel runs a great restaurant and bar.

Absolutely recommend the 2 hour walk to Taranaki Falls.

Absolutely recommend the 2 hour walk to Taranaki Falls. You can do it in sneakers, some parts are lovely bush right alongside the river. The landscape keeps changing. Its beautiful and the air is so fresh. There's a table at the falls so take your picnic and stop for a while. Get your caffeine fix from TNT Pataka Food Truck at Whakapapa Holiday Park, they make a decent coffee and the food looked good too. Unfortunately some places in the area closed due to staff shortages, so it might pay to check for what is open when you visit.

Hi, It is better to plan your trip for at least two days.

Hi, It is better to plan your trip for at least two days. You can enrol your kids to ski school at the nearby school for a longer duration trip so that they learn the art of skiing. Bringing chains with the car will help you to revisit the Whakapapa skiing location often and reduce the commute cost. All in all, it was good to see snow all around especially if you are coming from the northern part of NZ.

Meant to say in my review last night that we had a lovely waitress for dinner, young girl,Lisa? And the main reason we didn't pay for the dinner was because it came 10past10pm, besides one was not eatable.

Simple but cute. The bed room was simple but has everything needed: comfortable mattress, mirror, shelves and a small sink. Towels provided. Room service available upon request. Restaurant serve good food. Bar also nice to hang out. Communal kitchen and bathrooms spacious and clean. Outside spa which I did not have the time to check out but sounds good! Dinner and breakfast available at the property. Staff were lovely. Nice views from the hotel and plenty of outside areas.

Perfect location. Oldie world charm and the staff were attentive. Our dinner was very enjoyable. I had fresh oysters and an amazing sirloin steak. Cocktails and drinks in the lobby lounge were good and quick. The Hotel is not comparable with a modern 4 star hotel. It was built in 1929 and kept it’s style. We will be back!

One of our favourite hotels in a wonderful place. Has such a great "Grand Budapest Hotel" vibe. There were staffing issues due to COVID but they went out of they way to be as helpful as possible. Overall a really fun stay.

The rooms were spacious and simply furnished but clean. The hotel was ideally located to explore the National Park, with trails just outside the hotel. The food at the restaurant was also very good.
