Though Manchester is dotted with name brand retailers, it has retained a semblance of culture that typifies mountain life in southern Vermont. Northshire Bookstore alone is well worth a visit or stay. We could have spent a week there, or more, and did spend several hours on an all-too short weekend stay. In an era dominated by online-homogenization, finding an authentic bookstore is like turning the pages of a book like none other. Add the special touches like home baked goods, creative entrees, a caring/knowledgeable staff----and the reasons for a timely return visit are manifest.

The rooms were so tastefully decorated, as well as the lounge and bar area. You will never meet a friendlier host, so genuine and accommodating. The property is adorable and very close to town. Breakfast in the morning is so tasty and fresh, not your run of the mill hotel breakfast. You can tell great care and thought was put into the details here, and it definitely makes the an enjoyable, memorable stay.
Stanford House is a basic motel. There is not a table or chair in the room. However, the room and bathroom were spotless and had modern furnishings. My wife and I would not hesitate to stay there again and would recommend Stanford House to anyone traveling through Manchester Center.
