Such a charming place to stay! The location is really great, as it's very close to the highway for the buses and also offers a stunning view of Cotopaxi volcano! Fernando and his team are warm and friendly, made me feel right at home. The whole place is very homely and cosy, and they put up fresh flowers everywhere. I ended up having the family room, which I loved and didn't want to leave. It does get cold in the rooms but there is a heater and you get lots of layers and blankets in your bed for a comfortable sleep. The breakfast is also very generous and delicious. Highly recommend staying here on your visit to Cotopaxi!

The lodge is fantastic and the staff provide an excellent level of service. Great value for the money. The common area is very nice and guests are consistently wonderful people. I also enjoyed the communal dinner. The staff will set you up with locally guided tours to Cotopaxi and local mountain guides for surrounding peaks (I highly recommend Javier and Jaime).

The host Arecely is the heart of Mateospaxi and treated us like family as soon as we arrived. We felt very comfortable and Mateospaxi had everything we needed as a base to explore Cotopaxi national park, including access to kitchen. Frank is an amazing host! He helped us so much with planning of the trips around. ( El Corazón, Iliniza Norte, Cotopaxi....) Chaupi was our base camp for the acclimatization in mountains in Ecuador. We spent in Frank hostal amazing one week and I can definitely say, that it was the best decision stay in Ilinizas Wasi. You can use a kitchen, pat their dog and cats, use the washing machine. Frank even helped us with booking a guide for Cotopaxi and he recommended us great guide Marco. ( From 8 groups we were the only ones, who reached the summit.)

The location was perfect for our needs, offering close proximity to the mountains to acclimatise for our Cotopaxi climb. It is a family run mountain lodge and the owners Fernando and Teresa were incredibly personable and accommodating, always ready to assist with any request. They even arranged transport for us to the local mountains and the main road.
One of the highlights was the delicious home-cooked meals, with breakfast and dinner included in the price. The rooms were very spacious, providing plenty of room to relax, and the showers were consistently hot, which was a welcome feature after a long day on the mountains.
I’d highly recommend this mountain lodge!
