This is a lovely historical city with lots of character and charm. There is plenty to do and see for all ages - from the famous Tsaravets fortress, the old town and churches, wine tastings, and museums, I can recommend the Museum of Illusions which is very fun and interesting. There are also brilliant cafes and restaurants to suit every budget - we particularly like Shtastliveca Restaurant which has a lovely terrace with great views. Best to book though as it is very popular. The only downside is the parking which can be difficult. Beware of the clamping and towing signs so make sure you do park legally!

The town is beautiful, hidden in the mountains with a rich medieval history. Seems pretty quiet during the day because the heat can get up to 37degrees in summer but it is very lively in the evening with many cool bars and pubs.

Nice surroundings, plenty places to visit. A city to return to.
Just be aware of the parking spaces, not easy to find in the center, very narrow streets.

We happened to be there for 2 very hot days which made...
We happened to be there for 2 very hot days which made walking to and around Tsarevets fortress difficult but it is well worth a visit. The old part of town is also full of interesting buldings, shops and craft workshops.
We went to a restaurant called (Le?) Jardin for dinner on both evenings. Here we could sit out and there was a good variety of tasty food.
As we were travelling by public transport and not having smart phones a map of city bus routes would have been very useful. We were able to find a bus from the fortress back to town and this was good. We wanted to go to the Bulgaria mini park but in the end did not because it was too far to walk in the heat. We had to settle for viewing from afar from the Baldwin Tower in the fortress.

I recently visited Veliko Tarnovo, and it was a delightful experience. This charming Bulgarian town, with its rich history and stunning architecture, captivated me from the start. The views from Tsarevets Fortress are breathtaking, offering a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved medieval ruins. The cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and friendly locals made my stay truly memorable. Veliko Tarnovo is a hidden gem that I highly recommend to anyone seeking a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Beautifully designed boutique hotel with attentive, tasteful design features throughout. Breakfast was excellent - made from fresh local produce and the homemade banitsa was the best in Bulgaria of the many that we tried. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Staff were welcoming, helpful and hardworking. A wonderful place to stay in the city, in an ideal location
This hotel has a maaajor bonus: the view. If you are not afraid of heights, nor have a problem with trains passing by and making a bit of noise, it is just amazeing. The room was very clean, and the bathroom big enough. You have to consider though the bulgarian shower type: standing shower, without insulation or curtains.
Everything about the hotel met my expectations and then some. We had a great time at the spa, the breakfast was very delicious and fresh and the staff was very welcoming. Of all the towns in Bulgaria I have visited this one is my favourite in no small part thanks to this hotel.
