I had a beautifully tranquil stay at The Karalis Beach hotel. The location is gorgeous, with views of the New Castle of Pylos to one side and the incredible blue expanse of Navarino Bay to the other. I had a comfortable room with calming decor, well equipped with a coffee machine and mini-fridge, and a balcony overlooking the bay. Breakfast (plenty of good choices), is served on the top floor, perched over the water. The views are almost too beautiful to seem real. Fish below make an appearance every morning and thrash about, devouring bread thrown over the railings.
The outdoor terraces are suspended over the rocks with incredible views at every height and angle. Sturdy steps decend from the lower terrace into brilliantly clear water - still warm in the last week of October.
A short walk up to the end of the road leads to part of the castle, a walled expanse with enhanced views of the entrance to the bay. An equally short walk leads to the proper entrance to the castle, which is a huge space to explore including the impressive ruins, a beautiful garden, and yet more incredible views of the bay.
The hotel staff are genuinely kind, friendly, and happy to advise about places to visit and to arrange transport with local taxi drivers, especially Panos, the lovely driver booked for both my airport transfers and a couple of trips.
During my stay, I visited the Polylimnio waterfalls, a mountain acrross the bay with towering wind turbines, (and a tiny church open just one day of the year every May!), Giolava lagoon, and Voidokilia beach. All spectacular, and all within easy reach of the hotel. Its a testimony to the beauty of the hotel and its immediate vicinity that I enjoyed spending time there as much as visiting these famous locations.
I do plan to make a return trip. The hotel itself and the area offer so much beauty (and peace, in October), and the exceptional kindness and hospitality of the staff made my visit unforgettable.

Pylos is a beautiful quiet town overlooking the incredible beauty of Navarino Bay. It's a great location to enjoy peaceful days and as a base to explore the wider area, I stayed at the Karalis Beach hotel which I recommend most highly - see my review and photos of The Karalis for pictures of the bay, castle, and other famous locations

Pylos is lovely place with enough bars and restaurants to choose from.
The square with the colom and the commemorative plaques of the 3 admirals who fought against the occupiers in the battle of Navarino is and where a lot of cafes have seating and somewhere to watch the world go by.
The castle is very interesting and has a museum where some of the finds from the Palace of Nestor are kept on display.

Pylos is a lovely harbour town with access to beaches if you have a car. Facilities are many . Lovely square to sit in at night and interact with the locals. Plenty of shops too. As a vegetarian I was disappointed with the offer at restaurants for me but that was the only downside

Enjoyed Pylos - beautiful area with some lovely beaches. We were just unlucky with the property we chose.
Also a lot to see in the area - Methoni for example is worth a trip.
Pylos also has plenty of decent restaurants.

Pylos is a bit different than some Greek resorts that I have stayed at in so much that it is a Greek town that caters for tourism, rather than a tourist resort. Its a working town that retains its population with a marina, hardware shops and the like. Most of the people you meet are Greek as apposed to tourists although it is popular with German tourists. Whereas comfortable sunbed apartment / hotels based around a pool are very much the norm elsewhere I have stayed in Greece, they are not here. I stayed here for 6 nights and liked it very much. Its still very pretty with a bustling town square near the harbour with plenty of restaurants and cafes. Has lovely views across the bay. It felt a bit more 'real' in the sense of a Greek experience.

You have access to the following places which are worth visiting. The beautiful beach of Voidokilia. The beautiful nature reserve of Divari with its beautiful assortment of plants and bird life. The castle above Voidokilia and the the castle above the town of Pylos are both worth visiting.
You can dine in the fantastic sea restaurants of Pylos and the nearby Gialova restaurants.
If you are a golf player there are 4 superb golf courses which are run by the Costa Navarino resort.

This has to be my new favourite hotel. The views are exceptional, the staff very friendly and helpful, the location is quiet but an easy few minutes walk down to the town. The gardens and sunbed areas were full of lovely plants and everything was freshly painted and beautifully maintained. Breakfast was exceptional - a huge choice and served in the most fantastic location where one morning we were treated to the sight of dolphins feeding about 50m offshore.
Very friendly staff, very helpfull, pet-friendly environment which says a lot about the quality of people managing this hotel.
Nice and quiet location very close to the town center and right now to food/coffee/drink spots right on the sea. The view from our room has great.
Amazing view 🪟, we had a 3rd floor, sea view room, with a balcony
