FAQs about hotels in Porto Alegre

Brazil’s Southern Green Metropolis

Surrounded by 40 hills, the Guaíba Lake, and a unique ecosystem, Porto Alegre is the capital and largest city of the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Founded in 1772 by settlers from the Azores Islands, it received a large European influx of immigrants, mainly from Germany and Italy. It holds Brazil’s highest life quality and literacy rates.

Don’t miss the ‘Cidade Baixa’ Old Town, composed of historical and colourful buildings. ‘Moinhos de Vento’ is one of the richest neighbourhoods, with trendy bars and restaurants. Some of the best hotels in Porto Alegre are located in these areas.

The Usina do Gasômetro Cultural Centre is a refurbished power plant dating back to 1928, hosting an art centre and cinemas. The central Farroupilha Park is the perfect place to relax in a warm afternoon. Many hotels in Porto Alegre are near this green area.

The Azoreans Monument is a 17-metre high memorial dedicated to Porto Alegre’s pioneers. It is located close to the modernist Rio Grande do Sul state administration building complex.

Porto Alegre is a big city with a felling of small town.

Porto Alegre is a big city with a felling of small town. Lots of green areas, parks and squares. The shopping malls are huge. The traffic is not bad, just avoid to go out at rush hour. The main food is bbq (gaucho stye) and has steakhouses all you can eat with a reasonable price everywhere around the city.

Porto Alegre is full of potential.

Porto Alegre is full of potential. However, I did not feel real safe walking by myself in some areas. On Sunday afternoon, I met a local who spoke English. She said my feelings were correct and that I needed to be VERY aware of who was around me. The town itself has an enormous amount of wonderful, old architectural beauties to behold. If you are traveling through this area, a one-day stop is sufficient.

Compared to Salvador, Recife or Rio Porto Alegre has not so much to offer. There are some museums worth a short visit, there is the botanical garden and the Orla do Guaiba, the promenade/beach at the river, where it is especially nice to go to see the sunset. I think three days are enough. A fourth day can be spent in Gramado and Canela to the waterfall Cascata do Caracol.

Nice town. Much better than Sao Paulo. And it's cleaner as well. No, it's a clean town with good air. The buffet restaurants are exelents, everybody needs to try it many more, who likes the beef meat and the fruits.

the worst part is the city airport connecting flight which is Lima Peru the worst most terrible airport in the world included the working personnel of the airport and the Avianca airline as well. in addition you can buy snitching to drink or eat because is a robbery. An example a little can of domestic beer they charge 7 dollars and a little pack of potato chips 5 dollars. if you can avoid Avianca airlines connecting in Lima Peru , do it , you will thanks me

The location is impeccable. Moinhos de Vento is one of the best neighborhoods in Porto Alegre, so the hotel is very close to Parcão, malls, supermarkets, and good restaurants. The staff is friendly. Especially Mari, our floor's room maid, did what she could to improve our (20+ days) stay.
