The room was very nice with a separate bathroom, which had a wet room, and a conservatory type sitting area. The evening meals were good and varied. The pub had an outdoor swimming pool which was very popular with guests. There was plenty of outdoor seating with tables, ideal for drinks.

The Sydney Arms, hotel in Dorchester

Set in the lovely market town of Dorchester in Dorset, the heart of Hardy County, this traditional English pub provides 5 letting rooms finished to a high standard.

It was cheap and cheerful. Room over a pub. Booked in, downstairs for a drink and food. They let me park my motorcycle at the back. Room was old but clean. Nothing fancy, but all I wanted. Ideal for Tankfest, McDonalds just a mile away for breakfast!

There is no food delivery and it would be hard to stay there without a car. The area is beautiful, calm and relaxing. We enjoyed Tank Fest. The Tank Museum is worth a visit. We cooked our meals which was fine. Bring your own seasonings (salt and pepper are there) and oil. We did some hand washing and there is a laundry basket and rack there. All in all it was a good place and a good value.

Dorchester is a great base for exploring Dorset, with its lovely beaches, history and nature. The town itself is small and attractive. Everything you need is within walking distance of the centre. There are several excellent eating places, as well as more basic fast food places, chain restaurants etc.

    Couldn’t fault the accommodation.

Couldn’t fault the accommodation. However Dorchester town seemed limited with places for a meal in the town itself. Plenty of places for burgers and snacks etc; but had to drive out for a decent meal. The Keep was a very interesting place to visit. Other places of interest were either closed, or expensive to visit, or you had to book for an appointment. Fortunately the buses to Weymouth seemed regular.

Although not a large town, there are a nice selection of shops along the Main Street, 5 museums catering for young and old, historical town walking trails and nature walks and a lovely Victorian park. The selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants will satisfy any foodie lovers requirements, and on the Sunday that we visited, there was an Artisan street market and a car boot to wander around. Parking is plentiful and cheap, and free 6pm-8am.

Dorchester has the feel of a small town with many delightful old buildings, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all seemingly selling good food. There are many museums in and around the town centre, often easy to get to on foot. There is Roman history here, medieval too, a long military heritage and of course the dinosaurs of the famous Jurassic coast. Too many things to do in just one weekend, and many more attractions only a short car-drive away. The shops? - Well we never had time to explore them!

I love the decor from the moment I walked in the hotel. Our room was beautiful and quite spacious. The bath in the middle of the room was quirky 😁. Toiletries were of very high quality as well. Nespresso coffee machine in the room is a bonus. We had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and the food is really, really good. The best of all, the staff were really friendly and accommodating.

This was easily the best hotel during our UK trip. The staff was lovely, the food was amazing ( tasty, big portions and fairly priced), the continental breakfast had many options, the rooms were nice and clean. The position is perfect to visit the Jurassic coast both west and east, it's just 27 minutes from Lulworth cove and Durdle door, and 25 minutes from Waymouth.

Liked the style and decor of the Hotel. Spacious bedrooms. Good selection of food available at breakfast time. The Hotel is based in Poundbury which is about a half hour walk from Dorchester town centre or a 10 minute bus ride . We booked the Hotel because they were offering a very good deal at the time and it was a lovely Hotel to stay in.
