It was a convenient taxi ride to the venue we wanted to go to. The breakfast room is a little gem and the friendly bar has an open fire. It’s a tad shabby but this is more than made up for by the staff and the cleanliness.
The breakfast was lovely and excellent value.
The parking is very secure, but the entrance to it is very low so I’m glad I took my car and not the van.

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.
Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.
The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.
Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.
The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

We came for daytrips to the Black Country Living Museum and Warwick Castle so we didn't have a lot of time in Birmingham itself and spent most of the time in and around the Bullring and Grand Central shopping centres. We did visit Victoria Square but the whole area was preparing for the Frankfurt German Market so many of the grand open spaces were full. I would have liked to have seen some of the parks and museums but we didn't have the time. The local people were very friendly and approachable. As the 2nd biggest city in the UK it is not particularly cheap but the Wetherspoons in New Street Station was excellent value for money and we managed to get seats in the Odeon cinema for £5 each when bought online. There are also extensive internal and external markets where bargains can be found.

Lots of people and traffic, I know it's a city but just an eye opener for me from the 'quieter parts' of Britain. Big Cities, of course, also increases the amount of litter, the number of beggars and druggies about and even more taxi/Uber drivers ignoring most road signs and them doing what they want then we have the police sirens....wow they seem to running from job to job on blues every time as it seemed like every few minutes , there was another going off.
But you felt safe, probably due to number of people still about late at night, plenty of Hotels, lots of old and new buildings etc to see and experience but how, there wasn't a riot when the city council first built the 'council house' building, I'll never know! Talk about over the top exuberance looking after themselves!! WOW!!!
Then you got the trams of course, The Bull ring and the Grand central station which seemed bigger than the shopping centre itself as every alleyway seemed to take you back to it!

The weather certainly helped - shirt sleeves in October are uncommonly warm. Busy city centre - lots to do. The Grand Central / Bullring retail centre is loud, proud and almost as big as Ozzy, the metal automaton bull in the plaza of New Street Station. If you're not hurrying away by train, check out cosy little Moor Street station - a few steps only but many decades removed from its big brother - and the charming Great Western Railway buffet is perfect for relaxing with tea and scones - and watch the low winter sunrise straight down the platforms.

The traffic system is horrible.
The traffic system is horrible. You can't find your way easily and get confused so that you wander onto the bus lanes and then they fine you like they did with me! I like the are around Birmingham and the people seem generally friendly and kind. But the traffic system is a nightmare and just designed to trap you in it: I had to go round and round it four or five times before I could exit it. I only know one other town I've visited in the UK where it's been this bad - and I'm not even referring to central London. And the parking - even further out - is too expensive. It seems the local council make it very hard for hotelliers to run a business. The NEC is good though.

Absolutely beautiful hotel with lovely staff eager to help. Loved the breakfast, hot food/pastries and one of the best apple juices I’ve ever had! We had a lovely view of the grounds and even Birmingham city centre which was a refreshing perspective. This was my second visit, we hope to return soon.
Very central location so easy access to shops, bars and restaurants in the city centre (although we did stay here because my son was getting married in the hotel. Stunning views of the whole of Birmingham
The staff very friendly, hotel very clean, not too far from Birmingham city centre .
Been visiting for years same hotel just because it’s so cheap got everything you need for a short stay !
