It's was a wonderful experience. Just the swimming pool part. I didn't see any staff on duty to monitor the guests activity. Perhaps can provide at least 1 staff to standby there. I don't feel safe letting my kids swimming at the pool without the staff around.

Kota Kinabalu (KK) is the capital of the East Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo. It features white-sand beaches, tropical rainforests and the outer lying coral reefs and islands of the Tunku Abdul Rahman (TAR) Marine Park, a haven for scuba divers.
Occupied by the Japanese and heavily bombed during World War II by the British, some remnants of this colonial era remain in the Atkinson Clock Tower and Signal Hill Observatory, with its sweeping view of the coast.
Tanjung Arn is KK’s most popular public beach and secluded northern beaches like Karambunai and Dalit have resorts dotted along the coast.
Kota Kinabalu Harbour hosts international cruise ships and the KK Waterfront is a popular place with many bars. The KK Handicraft Market is your chance to grab a nice souvenir to take home.
Mount Kinabalu is Malaysia’s highest mountain at 4,101 metres. This highly important ecological region contains rare fauna and flora and makes a good day trip from the capital.
A variety of hotels on Booking.com are centred around Kota Kinabalu International Airport, the city centre and islands.
The beautiful Sabah as a whole. When not going there for shopping or city life, the place is full of nature and culture with friendly people. It is easy to get round the state especially if you use Google map :-)
All sort of activities are available, whether you are alone, with family, with small kids or friends. All the days I was there, I ate different food and cuisine and best part is, most of them are offered within one shopping complex. When I felt not going out, I ordered food and even groceries from Grab.

We mostly spent our time in Kundasang where we got to see the stunning hills and mountain scenery and spend time with the wildlife at Desa Dairy Farm, the Alpaca Club, the Arnab Village Ranau. We also got to pick strawberries at Mesilau Strawberry Garden - though it's not in season, it was still a fun experience for the kids. We also got a chance to visit Tanjung Aru and play bubbles while watching the sunset. We also had a fantastic seafood dinner at KK Garden Seafood, where the kids got a chance to see a wide array of live seafood as well. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience and we would definitely come back to experience other parts of Sabah in the future.

Kota Kinabalu was for me a stepping stone to get to forest...
Kota Kinabalu was for me a stepping stone to get to forest and wildlife at Sepilok and Kinabalu Park. I was glad to enjoy the local food here and to realise what a multicultural place this is with perhaps 35 indigenous groups as well as people of Chinese, Malay and Indian background also settled as well as more recent English colonisation. All these cultures have influenced the way I ate and interacted with people on this journey. The local people have big hearts and often joy in their faces. They have made every effort to help me and my travel companion. I look forward to bringing more of my family here to enjoy this beautiful place.
I hope that I can help reduce the need for Palm oil in this world so the we can keep the complex jungles that still exist here. I am very grateful for the work that has been done to protect the Parks that have already been gazetted.

Loved the city. So relaxed compared to KL
Loved the city. So relaxed compared to KL
But not worth the price. Quality doesn't match up
Price of seafood is more expensive than KL.
Quality of Hotels are not good in general and the price is similar or more expensive to KL. Doesn't make any sense.

Looks like it could be a good tourist spot in the next few years due to the large amount of building work taking place however right now the whole place has an eerie sort of feel to it which as a tourist makes you feel quite uncomfortable. Despite this there are still many tourist spots situated in around the city, in particular Masjid Bandaraya, a beautiful mosque located 10 minutes from the city centre by car.

Kota Kinabalu is a great place to explore for a budget...
Kota Kinabalu is a great place to explore for a budget holiday. Amazing food. Amazing people. Interesting day trips. Super easy to get around with GRAB at very low cost. You can easily explore KK by foot, but street scapes and many buildings are a bit run down. There are some amazing experiences, particularly the Mari Mari Cultural Village and Manukan island. Other experiences were “good”, but had some issues: heritage train (no steam), museum (partly closed), Sepanggan Island (couldn’t snorkel or walk anywhere), Peredan Park (closed due to Otters attacking people!!!), city view observation deck (closed), KK wetlands (part of the trail under water, gum boots available…)
Go to KK if you want value for money and great food, and willing accept that not everything will be quite as you might expect it.

They really go out of there way to make your experience exceptional, I have airbnb’s in the U.K. and I’m taking notes from this property. The room itself is of the quality of a 5 star hotel room. it is exceptionally clean, everything inside the room is of the best quality and very impressive, the room itself is beautiful and the customer service is 10/10, responses are always immediate and they are always ready to help. They exceeded my expectations both with the room and the service. Thank you guys, I hope to come again
Mercure hotel is on a perfect place in the city. it is within walking distance from both Suria Sabah mall and Jesselton Pier for boattrips to the Islands. Nice rooftop terrace, although the pool was a bit short.
