The room size is reasonable for us with all the things we need. Morning breakfast is nice with lots of choices. Location is not bad, restaurants around are within walk distance.

Matsumoto was a nice place to visit on our way to Takayama.
Matsumoto was a nice place to visit on our way to Takayama. We stayed for three nights at a great hotel outside the city center called Matsumoto Jujo. During the day we visited the Castle and they provided a free English speaking tour guide which was wonderful. Another day went to the Wasabi farm which was relaxing to walk and nice. In the main shopping area of Matsumoto, most shops and restaurants were closed. Not sure if that is because we were there during the week or end of November. The Edo period street was nice but small. I would suggest if a person visits, two days is enough.

The centerpiece was the castle and its close proximity to hotel. Also finding a Mount Desert Ice Cream from Maine in the historic district! Easy to connect to Narai Juku on JR. Nice walkable area. Take out meals next door at Hotto Motto.

The city has a wonderful atmosphere with old and new blending so well, the castle is the highlight and should be seen at night as well as during the day, the free guides are so knowledgeable,
coffee shops and restaurants for every taste, it poured down one day but the museum’s kept us busy and they really know how to deal with so many wet umbrellas

Matsumoto is a pretty little town in the valley of the 'Japanese Alps', surrounded by large mountains.
It is a perfect hub for venturing in several directions by local trains, such as a Wasabi growing farm; an old samurai village, called Narai-juku; or Kamikochi - a spectacular Alpine resort, high in the mountains!
Inside Matsumoto there is a very famous ancient Castle, can be visited inside as well; as well as several nice museums and lots of restaurants.
It is famed for 'soba'. The best soba restaurant in Matsumoto is called 'Kobayashi' - a family run wonderful restaurant, with excellent food and service!! Warmly recommend it!
The area is full of wonderful hot springs (onsen) spas, in Hotels, where one can stay and relax. Even so called 'business hotels, near the train station have spa (onsen) facilities for those who stay there! Brilliant!

A good hotel in the center of Matsumoto, near the station and various tourist attractions. The hotel was clean, and guests can pick up necessary toiletries, cosmetics, tea, and coffee at the reception. The laundry facilities are very convenient, with the ability to monitor the status of the washing machines on your room's TV. The breakfast was generally good, predominantly Japanese style, but there are also options that cater to foreign tourists.
Stunning traditional ryokan with friendly and welcoming staff. Room was super comfortable and perfect for a one-night stay.
Super close to both Matsumoto Station and Matsumoto castle, as well as other sights.
Well worth paying extra for dinner for a delicious home-cooked meal. Staff were happy to explain what everything was.
Hotel has an excellent position in city center (near train and bus station), also near Matsumoto Castle. The staff is kind and nice, helpful, but their English is not so good. The breakfasts are fantastic! This is great option for one week stay in Matsumoto.
4-star upscale hotel not far from Matsumoto station. Easy walk to Matsumoto Castle as well as Nawate and Nakamachi shopping streets. Superb breakfast but with limited options for vegans / vegetarians; Japan is generally not a friendly place for them.
We used this hotel multiple times as our base between locations was Matsumoto. Absolutely no faults whatsoever and the convenience and price were fantastic value. Wouldn't choose anywhere else next time we are there.
