Aviero is beautiful. The town centre has amazing Portuguese style buildings, the streeets are very clean, it is all very walkable and the gondola trips are very reasonably priced and leave from the canal in the central area. These tours are in multiple languages, so suitable for everyone. The local restaurants have all types of great food at very reasonable prices and local supermarkets and shops are really good value. People are friendly and helpful. Loved our stay there.

Lots of tourists in Aveiro at the weekend, many on the moliceiro boat trips along the canal. Lovely way to sightsee if weather is good - it was quite hot before Easter but with a cooling breeze. The multi-lingual guide on the moliceiro gave detailed and interesting information about Aveiro, especially the Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings as well as the stunning modern architecture. Also the fishing history of Aveiro was explained well.
Lovely walks alongside the canal from MELIA hotel, quiet and very little traffic until you arrive in the centre. On Sundays many market stalls selling numerous antiques along both sides of canal.
Back street walks are full of interesting surprises, traditional tiled buildings, sculptures, cafes, restaurants and bars. Very easy to walk around and explore or cycle on numerous dedicated cycle paths. Also excellent S Joana museum and art gallery in centre.
Good place for a long weekend or even a week if you also want to get out of centre to the beaches.

Aveiro is a charming city with fantastic food and friendly people.
We are moving there, that is how much we like it. It is much cleaner and quieter than Porto (where we have lived for the past 3 years.)
There is lots to do, shopping, eating, sites, boat rides, museums, to name a few.
There are lovely cities nearby as well. Ovar, Costa Nova, Águeda and Ílhavo. As well as Coimbra.
It has a great central location 2 hrs from Lisbon and less than an hour from Porto.

Aveiro is a beautiful city overall, my favourite place is the Ria of Aveiro wit his colourful boats and the Barra's beach with his colorful wood-houses as well.
I ate in a restaurant near the shopping centre Forum. I've rent a car from Lisbon to get around so I didn't need a public transport but there's a bicycle in the city to rent to get around which is very useful.
You have to go to a restaurant on time between 12-15 otherwise it won't be easy to find a place that open till late for lunch.
I like traditional restaurants around the city instead of the fast food ones. In Portugal the food is amazing!

I regret not being able to explore the city thoroughly during my visit. Nonetheless, I had a delightful evening at a local pub, which turned out to be a truly enjoyable experience. The people in the city are remarkably warm and friendly, adding to the overall positive impression of my brief stay.

Seeing pictures and videos of Aveiro was excepting more then what I saw. Those who say Aveiro is Portugal's Venice they must not been in Venice. For us it was waste of time to stay overnight. Maybe it was due to construction that was going around the city center. I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight. Maybe quick stop on your way.
Amazing value for money and excellent location to explore the town but also other nearby towns: Agueda & Costa Nova were amazing! We had one of the best meals in Portugal just a 5 min walk from this hotel and the reception staff helped us to book a boat ride which was cute but we could have skipped this.
This hotel has an excellent location near the center of Aveiro, right next to the river. It was very very clean, the staff was very friendly and also had an excellent breakfast. It will be my first choice if I go to Aveiro.
This is a unique experience… sleeping in a boat in Portugal, near Aveiro. Had an amazing time. I strongly recommend the boat and the staff was wonderful, made us feel really welcomed. The room view is a bonus.
The hotel is very close to Train Station and to the center. The rooms were clean and big. A very quite place to take rest. Te staff was so helpful and kind.
Nicely renovated old palace with à lot of charm. Comfortable beds and well equipped rooms. Perfect location in the center of Aveiro. Superfriendly staff.
