Clean and comfortable rooms, excellent location, decent breakfast. I was there for new year’s, and staff shared out sparkling wine and oliebollen :)

Absolutely delighted with our room (especially as we got an upgrade) on our return to this beautiful hotel and we wouldn't stay anywhere else if we come back to Ameland. Everything both super modern and really cosy. Reception super helpful and staff endlessly kind even at this very busy time. Coffee, tea and biscuits available at no extra charge in a part of the restaurant you can use as a lounge all day (we got into a routine of going for a wet/rainy bike ride, having a bath, then playing a board game in this nice communal space).
Hotel Hofker, LoftNes and Hotel Nes have received great reviews from travellers in Nes regarding the views from their hotel rooms.

Nes is a cosy, historical village, not cheap, but not very expensive either. It is the harbor village located almost in the middle of Ameland and therefore perfect for day trips to either direction. The restaurants are good quality, so is the ice-cream, the vegetables and everything else you can buy. There is a great supermarket called Jumbo on the main road from the ferry.
If you want to go for hikes, nature with lots of birds, deer and wild rabbits are just a short walk away. The Amelanders love their horses, and they are everywhere.

The town itself is so charming and pretty, with all of its very old and beautifully maintained houses and other buildings. Shopping facilities are splendid. There is nothing lacking on the island.
The fish 'n shop is a treat in itself, both in terms of its architecture and its meals. :)

Nes is a beautiful little town in the centre of Ameland.
Nes is a beautiful little town in the centre of Ameland. Great for people coming by ferry for the day or great to stay nearby. Lots of restaurants/cafes and shops. It is also walking distance from the beach. So you can walk from the ferry, stop for lunch or coffee in Nes; and then carry onto the beach. Or centre your holiday around Nes. We did and loved it. Our favourite place, other than the beach, was the nature park on the beach side of Nes. We had a dog staying with us, so he loved walking through the park.

Nes is such a quaint and quiet little town.
Nes is such a quaint and quiet little town. It has everything you could ever wish for. The architecture is very old and kept traditional by the locals. Lots of nature, flowers, and well-kept gardens. Every morning you wake up to a tranquil little town that is filled with the songs of birds. It is a really quiet and calm place, even though it was very tourist-oriented. The restaurants and bars there are exceptional. 10 / 10!

Nes is a lovely town on the island of Ameland.
Nes is a lovely town on the island of Ameland. Very nice central location - close to the ferry boat. Good place to start exploring the island. It is quite small, very easy to navigate on foot or on a bicycle. Easy to find shops and great restaurants.

Nes is sorta in the middle of the island of Ameland and therefore a perfect jumping off point to explore.
Due to the long but narrow shape of the island you can quickly travel from the south side (wadden and dyke area), through the "polder" (the pastures), the dunes, and end up at the ocean. By bike this takes about 10 minutes.
From Nes, you can reach both the furthest extremities of the island to the east and west in about 30 minutes by bike.
On the east is a great nature preserve with very well maintained bicycle lanes. Every KM or so there is an access point to the beach with bike stalls present. There's a route through the dunes as well as a route through the pastures.
On the west is another town called Hollum with an awesome lighthouse and a cool forest area. You can reach hollum through the pastures, through the dunes, or along the dyke. Each route has its charm.
I visited mainly to view wildlife of which I saw plenty. I stayed in Nes for 2 nights as well as 2 nights in Hollum. This allowed me to explore each corner of the island thoroughly.
The island has a variety of forest area as well as dunes, grass pastures, and ocean. I saw a lot of brant geese, barnacle geese, oystercatchers, hares, bunnies, kestrels, a roe deer, and many buzzards. I was hoping to see a peregrine falcon or a harrier but maybe I'll have more luck next time.
Everything was great. Cleanliness, free coffee all day, and the breakfast was exceptional. The deluxe sweet was really clean, and very comfortable. 10 / 10 rating. It was best hotel we have been to in a long time.
In a 5-10 min slow walk at the beautiful Nes beach; dog-friendly; modern and clean; super cosy bed; large room with a lot of space; balcony; modern bathroom with rain shower
