Swissôtel Grand Shanghai, hotel in Shanghai

A luxurious five-star hotel located in Jing’an, Swissotel Grand Shanghai, is a few steps away from the famous West Nanjing Road.

Fantastic location in downtown Jing’an near the temple and Jing’an Park as well as West Nanjing Rd and many of the main shopping precincts. If you need groceries there is a downstairs supermarket with high-quality products in a nearby shopping mall as well as Starbucks, Blue Frog and Pain Chaud for western-style food and coffee. All staff were friendly and polite, and my room was comfortable and clean. Bathroom amenities were fine and of the bulk variety for shampoo etc but this is in line with the hotels eco-friendly approach. I had room service a couple of times and it was delivered promptly and within the time frame stated. Overall a pleasant place to stay when in Shanghai.

FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernising at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and offers fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centres and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

Shanghai was so full of surprises and many beautiful sites to see. I loved the river cruise and night lights of The Bund The Metro was absolutely fantastic The main shopping Area 19 was expensive, go to Yu Garden markets! I was disappointed the Science and Technology Museum was closed for renovations. Information in English was hard to find - do you research before you go!

The sightseeing and eateries were great, transportation is so convenient as both the Underground subway and buses bring you to the door step of your sightseeing and eateries location. The use of Alipay and Wechat were so convenient as i do not need to fumble with my chinese yuan. Just scan and go. The only slow down is the security checks required at every undergound station subway entrance. Hence it's advise to travel light (without backpack) else you need to put your backpack in for scanning. The weather was a little on the high side (around 33 to 42 degree) hence it's better to equip yourself with sufficient sun lotion and sun shade. The following are the recommended sightseeing : Zhujiajiao Water Town, The bund, Yu Garden, Oriental Pearl Tower, Nanjing road shopping district, XianTiandi, Shanghai Museum (need to book in advance), Shanghai Acrobatic Show.

The cost of taxis, and especially didi which we used frequently from the Alipay app, were so inexpensive that it was easier than taking the metro. We both loved Shanghai . The fabric market was fantastic and although we had nothing made to measure, what we bought was beautiful- cashmere coats and several dresses which were ‘different’ and lovely. We also loved the Sinan mansions - beautiful architecture and restaurants. The best meal we had was at the Chinese restaurant at the Langham hotel on the 5th floor. Amazing food. We cannot wait to return.

Shanghai is a vibrant city with many options of good restaurants and parties. Nevertheless, get your pocket ready if you're going there. It's probably the most expensive city in China only followed by Beijing. Fat Cow is an amazing option for a good burger. Boteco is a greap option for Brazilian food. Getting around Shanghai is very easy with lots of subway lines and taxis.

Cosmopolitan city. Very clean and safe.

Cosmopolitan city. Very clean and safe. You go everywhere on the subway which is very cheap, especially if you buy the 1 or the 3 day ticket. The only problem, and you should prepare for that, is that most places do not have english menus or signs for example and almost everyone does not speak English. If you are planning to go it is useful to have Alipay installed before you go. You can use it to pay everything from taxis to coffe on the street or bikes you can use across the city.

Shanghai is one of the most beautiful city in the world. it is rich in history, culture, finance, food, arts and education. its spectacular water front along the famous Bund is historical with many well preserved architectural wonders. Shanghai is the central hub to other tourist attractions as the famous Huangshan Mountains. it is only 2.5 hours by its express train. The Moonlo Hotel is located less than 15 minutes from the Pudong International airport. it provides free pre arranged airport shuttle. its staff is english speaking and professional. within 3 minutes walk, there are many well appointed restaurants. the local residents are keeping this town vibrant with its community evening dances at the town square. we experienced its unique sense of close knitted community. the Moonlo staff assisted us in securing a tab for local sightseeing. provided free luggage storage for our trip to Huangshan Mountain. we returned to the same Hotel after this excursion and received a warm welcome and free upgrade to its premium room with full garden. we will return to this hotel and Shanghai to discover more of its beauty. highly recommend.
