I have visited SMA several times, and this trip was the shortest visit (only 5 days). In order to really have the time to enjoy the place, and to justify the long drive from Mexico CIty (or multiple flights, depending on your travel plans), it's worth staying there for a couple of weeks, at least. In the past, I have stayed there for 4 or 5 weeks, and that was perfect for me—gave me the chance to settle in and live among the locals, without feeling like I had to rush to see everything possible. And there is a LOT to see, in and around SMA.
The only drawback (and I think this may be every beautiful spot), is that as it has become discovered by travellers, it has become more and more gentrified. Part of the charm of SMA, is the rustic element, which still exists, but is becoming harder to find. The markets, for example, have less locally handmade products, and more China-made products. Too bad, but I think that is the story of the world over.

Lovely city with great hotels, restaurants, shopping, and historic sites. Everyone with whom we interacted was friendly and helpful. Cobblestone streets and stone sidewalks add to the charm. There is a lot to see and do in the city center.

It is beautiful, however, there is not much to do with kids. Yes, it is family friendly, but, I would not recommend for families with small children. Also, it is not stroller friendly. In the central area it is alot more flat, however, the incline and cobblestone roads make it so hard to travel with a stroller.

San Miguel de Allende is a little slice of paradise! Amazing architecture! Lovely restaurants and shops! Excellent food! Can't wait to go back! Highly recommend taking some local walking tours, etc. I also did an evening Tacos & Tequila tour that was fabulous. About 8 of us, 5 stops for food and tequila/mescal--really great!

So glad I visited SMA. The people were amazing. The airport transfer company was reliable and saved the day. We stayed in the center and everything is walkable. Our daily excursions were wonderful, we explored the entire city despite the rainy weather. Taxis a great option and cheap for around town. Dining out was more expensive than Spain, thank goodness for the delicious taco stands!

To visit different places. Enjoy the daily walks BUT I will recommend to visit LA GRUTA SPA $300 pesos not a lot if you convert to dollars make sure you spend enough time there. Mercado de arte I was able to find a lot of good stuff. Enjoy walking weather was perfect 70 degrees.
