We had a very pleasant one night stay at this lodge. Our room was large, clean, with loads of natural light and ventilation and very comfortable. We also had a huge balcony. Being on the second floor meant we had a most wonderful view across the mountains. The bed linens and towels were of a good quality. A continental breakfast was provided, access to a shared kitchen and there was tea and coffee facilities in our room. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful and gave us good advice to do the 2 hr Taranaki Loop walk in an anti clockwise direction so as to capture a better and longer view of the mountain.

Liked the cleanliness, staff being friendly and parking as well as the location. Loved the fireplace.
Bad experience second night in restaurant. Had to wait 2 and half hours to eat. Not many special dietary choices and no microwave to bring own GF food.
Pity that overseas tourists get top treatment and locals get second class treatment.

National Park is a great place to stay if you want to access whakapapa. It has everything you need from accommodation to a place to have a drink and get dinner at Schnapps Bar. Petrol station and a four square.

Not much to do in National Park village.
Not much to do in National Park village.
There's 3 pubs, by my count. Good walks around. Location is the key feature of this place - being less than 10km's to the mountain.
An affordable gas station and an important shop for ski rentals. A few food trucks around which always get us excited!

The Tongariro Crossing Lodge in National Park is highly recommended to travelers who plan to visit Mt Ruapehu Skifield and Tongariro National Park. It is the central location to the mountains. The food at the Schnapps bar and restaurant in the National Park was tasty and the price was reasonable also. You can also take a 40-minute drive to Nevalea Alpacas farm in Taumarunui. It is the largest alpaca farm in New Zealand. The friendly owner breeds 1,000 alpacas!

The views of the Tongariro mountains around National Park are excellent. It is a quiet little village with a good bar. There is no shop so buy your food before you head to National Park. National Park is an excellent base if you are planning to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing walk as you can get a shuttle to and from the walk from here.

Excellent place for hiking and trekking.
Excellent place for hiking and trekking. Place is near by famous mountain area. If require, all the hiking gears can rent from near by shop. As an alternative to Alpine crossing, I recommend Taranaki falls, Lower Tama and Upper Tama lakes trekking.

Very convenient to walking trails & DoC visitors centre at Tongariro, as well as both dining out venues in National Park. The room whilst not luxurious, had all the features we needed & was warm even when it was cold outdoors. We only had breakfasts in, with our own grocery items during our stay. We bought fuel & groceries at the 4 Square & dined both nights at The Spiral - we're always happy to support as many local businesses as we can in small towns like this when we travel.
We came during the low season in June, and we really enjoyed our stay. The Lodge is well situated to hike in Tongariro National Park. We also really enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well equipped! We wouldn’t hesitate going back!
Marina was so nice and helped us organizing our trip in Tongariro National park.
Very good breakfast with amazing homemade bread.
