The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety to choose from..
The location was very good, situated on a quiet street in the town, and just a short walk to the entrance of Birr Castle.

The building itself has existed for centuries, so it's steeped in history and folklore. Long, narrow corridors, archways, trinkets, and wall decorations create a rather quaint palatial ambiance. That alone makes staying there worthwhile. The grounds surrounding the hotel are also quite picturesque, great for a morning walk, weather permitting of course. The courtyard, which features a lovely seating area, was closed, probably because it's off-season. I'd imagine it'd be open by Spring.
We did not have any dinner/drinks, so can't comment on that. We did have buffet-style breakfast (included with the price of a double room), which was tasty, particularly the sausages. There was no scrambled egg option though, only fried.

Margaret was a very friendly host who immediately made us feel welcome and at home. The house is beautiful with lots of attention to detail. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, and everything was clean and tidy. Margaret provided us with delicious ingredients for breakfast, including eggs from her own chicken. Speaking of animals: a cute dog greeted us upon arrival, and a relaxed cat visited us at the window in the morning, adding to the friendly atmosphere of this place. We couldn't be happier about our stay and would return here any time again! Thank you!

Birr is a lovely town - we visited family and friends and spent some time exploring the town. We visited Birr Castle and gardens, which are spectacular. We were however disappointed that we could not visit the castle itself as it is a private residence. The town is very tidy and people are friendly.

We visited the castle grounds which were excellent and much better than we expected.
Town centre has everything and reasonable cafes. Lots of pubs but then it was Ireland! Restaurants a little harder to find.
Walks and good quiet cycling on your doorstep or a short drive.

Birr is a beautiful town. It's steeped in history. The period houses all around are stunning. Castle tour is highly recommended. Lot's to see and do there. Nolan's pub was very welcoming and a great pint to be had. Kelly's bar is great for food and old fashioned Irish atmosphere and pint of Guinness.

Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit.
Birr Castle was an enjoyable venue for a day visit. We had dinner in a local bar/restaurant where the food was good and the staff were friendly. Birr is quite a small town and it can be visited over a two day period. It is also relatively close to the Slieve Blooms which is a good base for walking.

We had a lovely little break. We were there for a wedding nearby and the facilities were excellent. The showers were lovely and the breakfast was fantastic!!! including the homemade scones! I am glad I chose to stay here instead of a hotel. It had the most peaceful surroundings! Thank you for making our stay in Birr such a nice memorable one. The room was large and had everything you could want for a short break. Tea/ coffee facilities and a hairdryer. The rabbits leading up to the driveway was so so cute!
The beds were really comfortable, and the room was perfect for our short stay
The hotel itself was clean, fresh, and tastefully decorated, and there was a really nice atmosphere there
The pool was amazing and so relaxing, a really welcome bonus
The young lady at reception was super, polite, and very helpful, as was the barman.
My only disappointment was that we couldn't stay longer
I'm looking forward to staying there again
Beautifully decorated, self-contained accommodation in a peaceful area near Birr. The quality of the furnishings was exceptional and stylish. Brona was an incredibly gracious host and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and provide advice and tips to help us find food, and see the attractions of Birr.
Excellent location, and well appointed. Good pub around corner if you like a drink and music and food. Ate in the Dooleys hotel, you need to be hungry. Would definitely rebook and recommend again.
