ibis budget Saint-Étienne Centre Gare Châteaucreux, hotel in Saint-Étienne

Ibis budget Saint-Étienne Centre Gare Châteaucreux is situated in Saint-Étienne, within 1.8 km of Zénith de Saint-Etienne and 2.8 km of Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium.

Room very small but clean, functional and comfortable. Great shower, nice toiletries provided. Room had a flat screen TV, air con and very little else. Decent bed and pillows. Staff were good, the lad on reception spoke English and was very helpful. Breakfast ok but like everything in France, very expensive. Location very good for travelling, train and tram stations literally across the road.

Hotel Astoria, hotel in Saint-Étienne

This hotel is located at the entrance of a regional park and provides rooms with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, free WiFi and a private bathroom.

Just about everything. The staff were very helpful and friendly, everything was extremely clean and there was free parking onsite. The bathroom had a good non slip surface in the shower and a handy stool. Breakfast was lovely with freshly squeezed orange and homemade yogurt and ham. We’d opted for a small room but it was very well equipped with a lots of thoughtful touches.

Was there to watch Scotland take on France at Rugby - a very friendly city with so many locals keen to ensure we had a great time, joined in with festivities and loved the atmosphere. A very safe and welcoming city !! The main square is surrounded by restaurants and bars, quality food and plenty of atmosphere. Found the tram system excellent - no issues in buying tickets and using to get to stadium. Saint Victor, a historic, medieval village and tourist spot with beach and boat cruises on Loire just 15 mins by car from City Inn hotel. Enjoyed a very relaxing day here, nice pace of life and again, very friendly !!

This is a tired sad town that is doing its best to put on a good presence for visitors - every local I spoke to was very pleasant and welcoming, which was very nice. The art museum was closed on my visit and there was nothing else that intrigued me to devote time/energy. There are very few places to eat after 10pm outside of fast food. I was here for a rugby match and the stadium experience was excellent, especially the bistro on the top level of the stade which is necessary to reserve ahead of time (note they only serve pizza and burgers after the match, so if you want a proper dinner book before the game). Streets are very dark at night for walking, this might frighten a lot of visitors; but the city seems to be safe, even if it is offputting to have to use your cell phone light to walk down a sidewalk and to hear voices of people you cannot see in the dark .

Unfortunately our stay was very short and it was pouring with rain the evening that we arrived and threatening to rain the next morning so we decided to move on. What we did see, gave us the impression of a very tempting city to ecplore

It is a basic city very livable but nothing special! It is one of the most habitable places in France (the least expensive city in France). It is a university town with many different bars and restaurants but nothing special it did not give me any energy.

The apartment is in a poor location.

The apartment is in a poor location. People out on the street below drinking with loud music till 3am every night. The apartment is very hot as it is in the roof, up 3 flights of stairs. No air conditioning. It was too hot to leave the windows closed but very very noisy so that we had no sleep for 3 nights. Lack of items such as there was only a few sheets of toilet paper, we had to find a shop immediately to buy more, the soap containers were empty, there was a dishwasher but no dishwasher tablets. It would be easy to provide these as we only stayed the weekend and had to buy everything. This is not a place to stay in summer. No good restaurants or cafes nearby. Very disappointing.

The museum of mines was very interesting and well organized. The transport around the city was convenient and easy to use. The Hôtel de Ville and central areas of town were well designed and very pleasant. Getting around Saint Etienne is very easy and walking is enjoyable too.

A great and affordable place to stay in Saint-Etienne : the location is central yet quiet with many places around to go out and a grocery shop around the corner. The appartement is clean and modern with electric heaters and big windows that let in a lot of sunlight ; the kitchen is well equipped (with a Nespresso machine) ; the bedroom is separated from the main area and the bed is big and really comfortable! Two people could easily stay there for a long period. Highly recommended !

The hotel was close to shops and transport. There is a nice park/square close by with a fountain and cafes. The room had a kitchenette and twin beds. There was a fan. The windows could be opened and it looked into the courtyard. It was quiet. The beds were comfortable.
