The room was not a good standard and was dirty in the bathroom. The heating in the room was not working. I have here twice before and the standard was far better. The rooms need refreshing and painting.

Even though tranquil Le Mans has a well-preserved medieval centre and virtually intact Gallo-Roman walls, it is most famous for its iconic 24-hour race. Motorsports lovers the world over descend for a day (and night) of non-stop racing on the Circuit de la Sarthe.
This legendary track encompasses parts of the permanent Bugatti Circuit, but also spills out onto normal roads which get shut for the occasion. One local restaurant is even placed right by a straight which cars hurtle down at top speed before braking for the bend near the Golf des 4 Heures club in Mulsanne.
Also within the circuit are the Antarès events venue and La Sarthe Automobile Museum, open even when there is no racing. The name of the latter refers to the Sarthe River running through the city centre. Colourful, half-timbered buildings line its historic banks, and steps climb gentle hills in the old town.
More charming houses fill the streets surrounding impressive St Julian's Cathedral, started in the 11th century. The city history is detailed in the nearby Museum of Queen Bérengère, and the town hall is in part of the former Palace of the Counts of Maine.
Booking.com’s Le Mans accommodation includes hotels with pools, cheap guest houses, and apartments near the train station.

As we were only visiting Le Mans for the race circuit The part of the city we stayed in was a good place to stay a good night life we did not use public transport but it did look a great way to travel you could use the trams from outside the hotel straight to the circuit....

Don't be fooled by the outskirts of Le Mans.
Don't be fooled by the outskirts of Le Mans. Once in the centre there is a huge gothic cathedral and the most amazing old town area that has to be seen to be believed. Some excellent restaurants even on a Sunday evening.

We stayed in Le Mans to break up the journey from Dieppe to the Dordogne. It was only 2.5 hours from Dieppe which was helpful after the 4 hour ferry crossing. It then made the 5 hour drive the following day much more bearable. Staying at the Ibis opposite the train station worked well to be central for shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance. As this was a stop over destination we didn’t do any specific sight seeing.

I was wary of Le Mans as I am not interested in formula one.
I was wary of Le Mans as I am not interested in formula one. I need not have been as there is no sign or sound of it in the attractive town. We enjoyed exploring the attractive car free ancient thoroughfares. Another beautiful French town with great shopping, restaurants and culture.

A large city with useful selection of shops.
A large city with useful selection of shops. The highlight was our visit to the historic, Plantagenet quarter and the two town centre museums (free entrance.) Good selection of restaurants for all budgets. For a bit of pre-Christmas cheer it was ideal. A walkable town centre with a good tram service which goes as far as the 24 hour race Track.

Fantastic location in the old town.
Fantastic location in the old town. Architecture is simply stunning and has to be seen to be believed. No where else quite like it. Lovely restaurants and bars a stones throw. People are lovely and friendly. Great weather. The annual Summer evening light projections / show are superb. Lots to also explore and enjoy in main centre. A drink in the square people watching is a good way to spend an hour or two. Our 2nd time back in ten years to stay with Brigitte. We will be returning!

Such a great guesthouse! A stunning old home which is beautifully renovated and furnished and in a fantastic location right by the old town of Le Mans. Large bed, high quality bed linen, modern shower room, really peaceful bedroom despite being so central. Lovely owner who is really friendly, helpful and communicates well ahead of arrival. Good quality breakfast. Will make this our go-to guesthouse when we are next driving down from Calais to the south of France!
Spacious room with large private decking area. Great pool with plenty of sun loungers and a large shaded area. Generous continental breakfast for 2 people consisted of 4 yogurts, 4 croissants plus bread, a bowl of fresh fruit and a jug of orange juice . Also, you could cook yourself eggs or an omelette! Only 8 miles from Le Mans 24 hours Motor Museum and Circuit.
