It's a small city right in the middle of Finnland's Lapland.
It's a small city right in the middle of Finnland's Lapland. Good for chasing the aurora borealis. Santa claus village is a nice place to visit and spend some time too. People are very friendly and willing to help if you need. Be sure to visit the local museum (Arktikum) to learn more about the city's history.
I guess one week is a perfect time to be sure to watch the auroras (because you will depend on the weather conditions) and get to know the city well between these tours

It's a nice small town primarily for tourism.
It's a nice small town primarily for tourism.
It's beautiful and more like an entry point to the artic circle. Public transportation is unreliable so either rent a car or hire a taxi to go around. Also, tours can be expensive depending on the season. Last thing, if you are visiting santa clause village. Do not book any husky or reindeer ride in advance online, it's better to buy tickets directly and it's much cheaper than online.

Rovaniemi is a place you need to visit.
Rovaniemi is a place you need to visit. We had fun chasing the Auroras. And of course no one comes to Rovaniemi without visiting the Sanata Claus Village, home of Santa Claus.
It was a shame that I could not book husky rides as I was too late booking it.
We will definitely come back.

Lapland is magical, especially in the wilderness.
Lapland is magical, especially in the wilderness.
We saw the Aurora Borealis, went husky riding, went hiking in the snow and loved it all.
The landscape is beautiful. The local people we met were so helpful and friendly, lovely.
Stay out in the countryside where the light pollution will not ruin the chances of seeing the Northern Lights.
Would highly recommend getting a car and going to the Ranua Wildlife park, The Arctic Circle Hiking trail and Korouoma Waterfalls
Rovaniemi is not a very atmospheric town, very functional and grey.
Nili Lappish restaurant is fun, has a set menu and reindeer options.
The Santa Village wasn't as magical as we hoped but perhaps the Santa Place is more authentic and special but it didn't open until Nov 1st.

A brilliant Finnish location rich in culture and spirit.
A brilliant Finnish location rich in culture and spirit. From seeing the northern lights to the comfort and quality of Santa village - this is a must stay place.
So much to do and everything is well integrated.
Would recommend. It's worth planning ahead taking into account what you want. Snow? Book between Dec and March. Northern lights? SEPT or March. Anything else just look at timing. Some facilities are only open during snow season granted 95% of what you would do is open year round. The lights don't come up till late September/early October on the trees etc

Rovaniemi is a wonderful place to visit with lots to offer.
Rovaniemi is a wonderful place to visit with lots to offer. We went on walks in the national park, saw Santa’s village and went shopping in town. I would recommend a minimum of five days. We were only there for 3 and it wasn’t long enough. We were there in autumn and imagine it would be even more spectacular during winter and summer.

I loved our stay at Apukka Resort, especially the unique experience of staying in the glass igloo. Waking up surrounded by the peaceful beauty of nature and having a chance to watch the stars and Northern Lights right from our room was truly magical. The room was super cosy and we loved the soft bedding, pillows and blankets. The resort’s location near Rovaniemi made it easy for us to explore the area and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
Apartment was spotless. Suited our family of 2 adults and 4 children, much better than staying in a hotel. Apartment was well equipped with everything we needed. Very warm. Location was in the middle of Rovaniemi Town centre, lovely to enjoy walks by the lake and head out for food or hot chocolates. Santa claus village & Airport is a short riide away, 7 mins or so driving. Will definitely be back. Thank you for an amazing stay
Great place and a great owner. It feels like home close to nature and just a little far in the bus stop but if you like walking no problem you could also ask help from the owner he will help you. I recommend this place to my friends and who are planning to visit Rovaniemi from the first time. Looking a nice hotel is good but knowing a nice owner to help you is great!
Great location, right behind the bus stop where you can take buses to Santa Claus Village, Santa Park and Rovaniemi airport. Hotel has 2 buildings are connected to each other by underground passage, quite unique. Rooms are spacious - had booked family room with bunk bed. Hotel is 2 mins walk to the main shopping street.
The apartamente was clean, very comfortable, and the owner was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Rovaniemi.
