On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views across red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths benefitting from the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodation by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the south-east.
Wonderfull place to come to visit with your family.
Wonderfull place to come to visit with your family. We stayed 5 days in Sirmione, time enough to visit the spectacular Gardaland fun park, which i rate better and cheaper then Disneyland, lots of ''playgrounds'' for teenagers and adults, with decent waiting time at the lines. About the
Castello Scaligero di Sirmione, we visited it in June 2024, and eventough it rained for 3 days nothing could have taken away the beauty and charm of this place. Unfortunately we didn't have the weather by our side and didn't take a trip with the boat on the lake, but i will plan this for the next year. Simply beautiful. Highly recomandable.

It's a very pretty little town with a charming historical centre. There are some lovely restaurants and lots of opportunities for boat tours in the area.
It's better to arrive by boat or public transport as driving in the historical centre (to get to your hotel for example) is a nightmare. We have a Ford Focus and it was a tight fit through the narrow streets and all the crowds.
If you arrive by car be sure to get the permit at the entrance before the castle to drive in the centre - but better yet - park outside the historical centre.

Sirmione is quite a small place but with plenty of shops and bars and very pretty. There are a lot ferry's you can take to all over the Lake so never short of somewhere to visit. There is no supermarket in Sirmione but you can take a shuttlebus for 2 euros about 20 mins away where there is a small supermarket called coop.

Loved staying on the peninsula and the limited vehicles - not quite pedestrianised but close enough. Walked right to Jamaica Beach at the top, which was nice to visit. Lots of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Sometimes really busy when a tour party arrived - would recommend visiting out of season. We went early May and it was busy enough to have a vibe, but still able to walk around easily - bonus it was warm & sunny!

Great historic location, but extremely busy even in early May
thermal spas and mud treatments are excellent and must be tried
Lake Garda sunsets are beautiful
the castle is excellent
quieter north end of the island is worth exploring with some historic old churches
some great restaurants (Caruso's), but elsewhere waiters could be disinterested and unhelpful
great for ice cream!
You couldn’t wish for a better location, right in the centre of Sirmione. The welcome was great, I arrived early and luckily the room was ready. The room wasn’t luxurious in the classic Italian style but it was perfectly clean, comfortable and more than adequate bearing in mind that you predominantly only slept in it. The breakfast was extensive and good. The bonus was the sun deck where one could take a break from the sightseeing and touring. Would certainly recommend the Hotel for a Lake Garda holiday.
For the money this hotel is highly recommended. Perfect location for anyone who wants to visit the most beautiful part of Sirmione. Very nice hotel complex in the middle of the "old town" and with a lot of tips for you to attend. They had the best breakfast that we ate in Italy during our trip as well, well exceeded our expectations!
Cosy stay in this lovely hotel. Great value for money. Very close to a calm and beautiful, less touristy part of Lake Garda. Walkable to Sirmione centre. Rooms fairly small, but clean and well equipped. Staff very kind and helpful, working wifi, breakfast fabulous! Pool also a great addition to relax. Fully recommend.
