Beautiful location with stunning views. We were lucky to have a self-catering chalet facing the water. Facilities were clean and comfortable with fantastic outdoor and indoor facilities. The restaurant food was good and catered for all needs and good facilities for children although the pool was a bit cold.
The nature reserve is adequately equipped with fun water activities. There are wild horses, we saw wild baboons roaming when driving to down the entry road as well as buck.there are multiple bird specoes and definitely and anglers paradise on the lake.

Horrible experience owners are terribly rude, shouted at me and we're arrogant when complaining about promised facilities that were not working. Food disgusting even the staff agreed. Would definitely not recommend this place because the owners don't care about customers not do they care to provide any facilities that were not working that is advertised.

Harrismith was beautiful and wish I could've stayed longer but it was more an over night stay as we were coming from Durban making our way to Johannesburg. Love the scene and nature feel of it all and would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Harrismith is a small town and halfway from Johannesburg to Durban.
Not much to do, but a very nice relaxing out of the way place.
For back pack travellers it could be a fantastic spot if you want 5 star accommodation.

The decision to stay overnight at the lodge was our worst...
The decision to stay overnight at the lodge was our worst decision to date. On reaching at 10:30 pm, it was found that there was no electricity. The security said that electricity will come at 12 o'clock. Waited for 12:30 AM but the electricity did not come.
Think about sub-zero temperatures, not even electricity to make tea or coffee. Again asked security he said our job is security.
At one o'clock in the night, there was no helper, no emergency food arrangement, there was no electricity in the cottage.
The nearest town is also 25 km away and the road is also rough.
Finally went to sleep to see in the morning. I woke up at five in the morning and still there was no electricity. Called the emergency number twice but it was closed and there was no security.
Leaving visitors so helpless in such a rural place is extremely risky and we don't know what to do next while the lights in the front building were clear.
When we called the reception in the morning, they started apologizing, but such an apology is of no use to us when we people started feeling sick due to the cold.
We are very disappointed with such bad service and will probably never visit here again.

Harrismith is a one horse town, nothing to do there but we went down for the Cancer runn (Bikes) that was enjoyable. The roads in the residential area is HORRENDUS! Potholes like i have never experienced so they need to fix this pronto, but having said that NOTHING gets repaired in this country, it's shocking!

Never really stayed in Harrismith until now.
Never really stayed in Harrismith until now. Always stop at the Harrismith Engen garage on the N3 when travelling to Durban and back to JHB.
As this was part of Harrismith I can say that my stay in Harrismith was fanatstic...my opinion though, choose your place wisely.

In the nice part of Harrismith, very quiet, very comfortable (not clinical), room was a very nice size, nice facilities and perfect for a one night stop over while travelling to break up the trip. Host super friendly, bed comfy, table and chairs always welcome to put our belongings on. We really appreciated the heater to take away the biting 3 degree cold. We felt very well rested to continue our journey the next day.
It's a very nice place (especially for Harrismith) in a nice quiet part of town. Very clean thoughtfully designed room that was surprisingly even equipped with muslim style toilet facilities and bidet, as well as western style toilet for non-muslims. Great location as a stopover point for travelers going to/from KZN.
The staff was very friendly , welcoming made me feel at home away from home. , really appreciated that. The hotel is not far from the restaurants about 6km away
