Perfect location in the middle of town to see everything in Assisi.Staff were excellent. Had room on top floor with wonderful views over Umbria. Also rang previous day to book a place in the car parking area next to hotel which was great. Had an excellent 3 course tasting menu for supper. Quite expensive but worth it. Assisi is world famous for the 2 saints – Francis and Clare – who were born here and subsequently founded Christian poverty movements. The tomb of the former is in the Basilica of St Francis, majestically located on a hill surveying the Umbrian countryside. Its graceful lines and powerful frescoes defy its 13th-century construction.
The Basilica of St Clare is from the same period and displays remains of the saint who inspired the Poor Clares. Between the 2 basilicas is the New Church, positioned where St Francis supposedly once lived, and the Cathedral of St Rufinus, dedicated to the saint who converted Assisi to Christianity.
Considerably older are the Roman villa remains near main Piazza del Comune, whose historic buildings house shops and pavements cafes on the site of the former forum. The columns of the Church of St Mary over Minerva were the entrance to a Roman temple.
Roman castle remains sit in the hills above Assisi, as does the more intact, medieval Rocca Maggiore which offers magnificent views over the town. Even higher is the Eremo delle Carceri, a stone hermitage where St Francis apparently preached to birds.
The cobbled streets ascending Assisi’s hills contain most of Booking.com’s accommodation options, including luxury hotels, cheap apartments and B&Bs near Santa Maria degli Angeli train station.
Beautiful old town preserved. The quietness and spiritual connection make you catch yourself whispering to not disturb the relaxing ambience. Was a brilliant choice. I had my share of stays in different cities/towns around the globe and Assisi old town is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.

Most people visit Assisi for the day, and it's really worth spending at least one night, just to take in the atmosphere of the old city and to enjoy services in the evening. The city is very steep with lots of hills and stairs (and hardly any , so it can be physically challenging, but well worth the trip. A bus tour is helpful for getting around. Lots of good places to eat and fun souvenir shops.

We have travelled to Assisi several times on holiday, the joy of both the friendly and familiar, yet full of surprises and unexpected celebrations. We are surprised how often we are recognised and remembered even as infrequent visitors. And there is always something new to discover, not just the Franciscan history but all the other aspects of the city including ordinary Assisi life. The Carceri, San Damiano and San Rufino Cathedral are well worth the short journeys to visit. We also particularly recommend the Museo della Memoria, about the astonishing and inspiring history of Assisi during WWII. We always enjoy the beautiful San Leonardo church (Via Antonio Cristofano) and the friendly Assisi Anglicans and chaplaincy. Sunday service at 11 am is followed by a lively and welcoming lunch at a local restaurant, where the wine and conversation flows! Best of all is simply taking in the atmosphere, the sunset and watching the world go by, with an aperitivo. The slow life!

Assissi is an incredible place to visit.
Assissi is an incredible place to visit. Search out the back streets and smaller Tavernas and you'll find amazing food. Well worth getting up early and walking around before the day gets too hot. and well worth going into the town in the evening. A good location with good access via the north / south Autostrada to other places.

Assisi is a beautiful small city full of culture and heritage and is just the right size for a weekend break.
However, I would advice caution over booking through Booking.com, as they charged my card twice and are still claiming I made 2 reservations, when I did not. It is possible that my account was hacked, but they do not appear to want to resolve this. I even have all the evidence from them that I only made 1 booking.

A gorgeous and charming medieval city in central Italy.
A gorgeous and charming medieval city in central Italy. The people are friendly and easy-going. Just so nice to walk around the small streets - a lot of stairs/up and down wherever you go. Famous for its religious/artistic heritage but also nice for food and wine. Touristy but not hectic at all - nearly all of the historic center is pedestrian. Good for 2-4 days.
Excellent staff and very welcoming. Always willing to help when asked ie. restaurant bookings, travel advice, transport information etc. I had to extend my stay at late notice. Was no problem, and the hotel was able to meet the same rates as my original booking and teh bonus of not having to move rooms.
I would strongly refer those travelling to Assisi to try this hotel. Until next time!
Wonderful stay at Luci Di Assisi, fantastic hotel run by a wonderful family. The location is perfect for Assisi and the local town of Santa Maria degli Angeli is so pretty and packed with brilliant restaurants and a stunning basilica. The pool was lovely especially after a long day visiting Assisi.
The breakfast was excellent, I can’t recommend this place enough 10/10
We loved this stay! It was the best accommodation we had stayed in for the past ten days. It was the best experience we had this time in Italy. The hosts were kind, generous, and helpful. We keep in touch through WhatsApp. It is easy to contact them anytime if you have any inquiries.
it’s a cozy, small hotel with a lovely boat Massimo who really made us feel welcome and taken care of. It’s right between the two parts of Assisi which is convenient as you can walk both up the hill to St Francis and back into the city and train station.
