Oudtshoorn is a very hot place to be in. Would be best to get an accommodation that offers airconditioning in your room and have a pool facility to cool down in. This will make your stay very pleasant.

Oudtshoorn has a lot of history, it was once the Ostrich capital of South Africa and some of the buildings in the town date back to the 1800's. There are a myriad of restaurants and cafes for every budget and the town is well worth a visit

We enjoyed visiting the Cango Caves , Meiringspoort Waterfall , De Rust Town , The Outaniqua Passes as well as the town itself. The only disappointment was the closure of the Rust and Vrede Waterfall due to lack of funds for the upkeep of the place , as it was reported .

We went in the heart of winter which impacted our lis to go out and experience the full effect of this slow-down town. There are many tourists attractions, so setting enough time to experience them all would be smart.
Who knew there was wine tasting in Outshoorn... not me.
The town is slow paced and allowed us to relax and take a break from our daily lives. We loved the opportunity to 'stop and smell the roses'.
Looking for a breakfast place was the most challenging part of the experience, there are so many options depending on the type of experience you would want. Some of the small mom and pop restaurants weren't open early on a Monday morning, so I would suggest calling ahead to check. (We settled on SPUR, but wanted to try non-franchise business to support the locals)
The town is rich in history and culture, but is still developing (don't expect a built up city center with a Starbucks and 15 different malls on the main road).
The opportunity to appreciate the culture was fantastic.

The cottage was self catering and the kitchen well stocked with all necessary utensils and a large fridge / freezer.
The hot water was hot and the beds comfortable. There was plenty of room with each bedroom having it's own shower and toilet. The lounge area was spacious. The area was quiet at night. Braai wood was provided. There were even some Springboks inside the large enclosure.
The facilties were neat and tidy, and the host was very friendly. Good communication with guests. She also upgraded my room with no extra charge due to a cancellation. Kids loved the clean swimming pool, and the place was perfect for me and my family. I will definitely book at 21 on Karoo when I visit Oudtshoorn again and surely recommend this place to people.
Had a lovely stay on this Pomegranate farm. We stayed in the farm house which had plenty of space. Lovely veranda with braai area and seating. Great to have the pool as well when it's hot. Location was perfect between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn. Would definitely go back. The host and staff were all very friendly.
