We’ve been coming to Umhlanga many times, & we were never happy with the food at other establishments. However, Protea Fire & Ice had the best of everything; breakfast to dinner was exceptional. The staff so helpful & friendly. My boys loved it, especially the gym.

Loved uShaka Marine World. Loved the food at where I stayed.
Loved uShaka Marine World. Loved the food at where I stayed. The malls, the city buzz were great. This was more of a trial solo trip for me, so I didn't do much exploring. But I'll definitely be back.

We visited just after Christmas-New Year.
We visited just after Christmas-New Year. Although quite a few holiday makers were around, we did not feel the tremendous 'crowd-surge'. Umhlanga was our ideal holiday destination in Durban. However I did drive through Durban beachfront (Snell Parade & Marine Parade). I wanted to experience the holiday vibe and check out the feeling of safety in the beachfront area. Although fairly busy with carparks full and a fair bit of pedestrians, there was no real sense of 'discomfort or danger. I would like to congratulate the Durban Municipality for coordinating the metro police presence in the Beachfront area. As a tourist, seeing the Metro police gave me a tremendous feeling of safety.

I liked the beaches and the work of life guards, who were controlling movement to ensure that beaches are safe for everyone. I also liked everything about Ushaka Marine World, especially the dolphin show and the Seal show.
The food at Kauai Restaurant at King Shaka airport was great also.

Umhlanga is still pristine.
Umhlanga is still pristine. Durban on the other hand still has a lot of work. I am a born and bred Durbanite and often wish for the days of Mr Obed Mlaba and Mr Mike Sutcliffe. They were Durban's A-Team.

See reviews by guests who stayed at hotels in Durban
The room was exceptional and clean with all the amenities you could possibly want. Staff are seen working hard from keeping the stairs clean to cleaning the light fittings in the hallways. Breakfast was excellent. I'm not sure if Belaire has changed management or ownership, but i have stayed there before, and the hotel has really stepped up their accommodation and services since my previous stays. This, in my opinion, is the best hotel to stay at if you must stay at the durban Beachfront area.
The Hotel has lots of charm. The room that I had stayed in was neat, clean and tidy. All the available items within the room were operational, including the usb charging sockets. The bathroom was cleaned daily and toiletries replaced accordingly. The towels were clean and white. Whilst the hotel has old school charm, it is a perfect destination for a business stay. It is central to durban as well as to pinetown.
The hotel was modern and new. The rooms were spacious. The bed was comfortable. Great sea views. The TV was high definition. Nice central location in Umhlanga - close to Gateway Mall and Umhlanga Rocks.
