FAQs about hotels in Taipei

The Undiscovered Asian Capital

Capital of the Republic of China (commonly known as Taiwan), huge Taipei is surrounded by mountains. Taipei 101, once the world’s tallest building, dominates its skyline from Xinyi, an area known for the most active nightlife.

At Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall the national flag is raised every morning and the guard changed every hour. Less known for tourists is National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, containing a tall bronze statue of the country’s founding father.

Taipei has tons of museums, but the best are Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines and the National Palace Museum – one of world’s largest collections of Chinese artifacts. Even more numerous are the temples dedicated to Buddhist, Taoist and Chinese folk religions. Xinsheng South Road is nicknamed "Road to Heaven" for its sheer number, but most famous is Longshan Temple in Wanhua, the oldest district.

Taipei shopping is fantastic and includes Core Pacific Living Mall, supposedly Asia’s largest. The Ximending area has lots of shops (and karaoke), while the Shilin Night Market should not be missed. For a break from the bustle head to central Daan Forest Park, the botanical gardens with its lotus ponds,or Yangmingshan National Park, known for hot spring baths and spring cherry blossom.

Whether you fly into Songshan or Taiwan Taoyuan Airport, the well connected public transportation system can take you to any Taipei hotel on Booking.com.

A very interesting culture with a lot to offer to a visitor. Great public transportation, very diverse and functional. Plenty of very polite and helpful people with good command of English so that communication has not been a problem. Food was excellent, fresh and affordable. To visit The National Palace Museum is a must for every art lover and I could spend days there and only see a fraction of the exhibits.

Taipei is an incredible city for sightseeing but an even better city for long-term stays. It's extremely livable and full of plenty to eat, see, drink, and do. The excellent public transit connects you to museums, night markets, parks, historic sites, temples, and more. The food is exceptional, and the city is easily navigable even for non-Mandarin speakers. I like to stay in Taipei by the month for the full long-term stay experience!

Apart from the things I put in my last review of Taipei, this time I went to the zoo gondola and took a ride on it. It goes up to a small village where there a few things to see and a convenience store for lunch, just at the entrance to the return gondola trip, as you can only get tea and coffee elsewhere. I also visited Beitou hot springs area where there is an interesting display (for rail fans) at the old railway station which is just next to the modern one. I walked right up to the thermal pool which, although manmade, is something to see. There are also interesting sights along the way including hot hand pools to wash your troubles away.

Taipei, and Taiwan in general, is an amazing place - people are friendly, the food is exquisite (the night markets are amazing <3), and the culture is fascinating, but the weather can be tricky sometimes. Seems that having a sunny day in Taipei is not that common, so if you experience one, consider yourself lucky. Despite the weather, there are plenty of things to do - museums (National Palace Museum, and National Taiwan Museum just to name two of them), hot springs (Beitou), night markets (Raohe Street was the best one), hiking (Elephant mountain) and many more.

It has everything you could want.

It has everything you could want. Great historic districts, exciting modern districts, and night markets better than any I've seen in any other country (and I've been to a lot). The food is incredible and has something for everyone. Most local dishes are pretty accessible even to a stereotypical Western palate, but there are also plenty of opportunities to stretch your taste horizons. It's very easy to get around using public transportation, and although communication in English isn't guaranteed it is easier than in a lot of other countries. And if you want to get into some nature, there are some great mountain/forest hikes within a 15 minute metro ride from the center of Taipei. Honestly, this is one of my favorite places I've visited and I will absolutely go back.

I really liked visiting Taipei 101 and climbing Elephant Mountain to get a great view of it. I was impressed by Chiang Kai-Shek's memorial even though he was a bit of a tyrant. I also liked the Martyr's memorial and the changing of the guards which made the ceremony at the Chiang Kai-Shek's memorial look second rate. The National Museum was worth a whole day and the Longshan Temple was amazing. A day trip out to explore the Pingxi branch line was well worth while.

I mistakenly assumed I could order breakfast but it turned out there is not a restaurant, only a food truck. This symbolizes the very creative environment in the hotel - when you enter the hotel lobby, you really feel like you have entered a theme park. The room was large and comfortable, and the hotel is situated next to the Taipei Main Station from where you have access to all main transportations - Airport MRT, high speed trains, regular trans and metro.

Given its cleanliness and comfort, it is value for money. It is centrally located in the city and is near the Taipei Main Station, with eateries nearby. More importantly, 7-Eleven was next door, a heaven during the typhoon when all restaurants and supermarkets were closed. A modest hotel yet functions well.

Great location near Taipei 101 for a great price. It is a budget hotel so no lobby, no swimming pool and no complimentary breakfast. These were not important to us since we were sight seeing and only needed a clean and quiet place for the night. Near metro.
